Who was the last TDF winner who was not doping?

How far back do you have to go to say with near certainty that a winner was not doping?

Doping in cycling is older than the TdF, so...never.

2200 miles of hills? Can you even enter that thing without some major drug use?

I would need drugs to get through a flat stage. I do not believe it is even possible to ride that race at the pace those guys do without "help." Three weeks of 24+ MPH racing, including 8 or 9 mountain passes.....I am no doctor or trainer but can the body even recover enough to do that at a slow pace?

Cheers,

Brian J

It's a matter of pace. In Lemond's words, it never gets easier, you just get faster.

I've ridden a stage of the TDF ( Le Etape 2005) It took me 2 hours longer than it did Richaard Virenque, the stage winner.

I'm certain with a little training, I could finish all 21 stages of the TDF. Now, I would certainly be out of the time limit and removed from the race, but I could do the distance in the muber of days alloted.

But the point is, it's not a super human task to ride the course in 21 stages with 2 rest days. The issue is wether anyone cna do it at the pace the winners do without PEDS.

LeMond got blown away by the EPO dopers, and he seems bitter about losing to dopers. I wonder if he was clean, or did he just take the weak stuff available at the time.

I think I have gotten to this point on the subject: as long as it is a level playing field then I don't care. They have limits which are set for blood levels and whatnot. You can dope and be just under those...go for it, it's your body/health and honestly it is a better watch than if they crawled along.

How did baseball recover its popularity? Steroids. What was the slogan? Chicks dig the long ball.

I got EPO while I was getting chemo in 2006. The stuff is absolute magic juice. I have no doubt that a few hematocrit points makes a signficant difference to riders in a long race.

That was the basis of my question. I am sure the race can be ridden by many....but not at the speeds those guys do it. How much have the speeds increased over the past 15-20 years?

Cheers,

Brian J

I don't believe Contador dopes.

Clen? Come on man, that's not dope.

It seems very unlikely that Greg LeMond doped.

The answer is easy: Alberto Contador.

It wasn't EPO/ dope, it was "tainted beef". Just go ahead and ask him (or his lawyers) if you want the truth.

I gotta go with Le Monster too. He was way to pissed about dope to be a doper.

I actually believe this. Or maybe I just choose to.

I might be the only one.

Fausto Coppi freely admitted to doping in NINETEEN FORTY-NINE.
So at what point since then did pro cycling suddenly decide to give it up?

I don't think so. I doubt there's more than a couple people around these forums, the 33 included, that could do 21 consecutive 100+ mile days with just 2 rest days. In their dreams maybe, yes, but otherwise no.

Actually probably quite a few, if you back the pace off. Get me 3 consecutive weeks vacation and I'll let you know.
