pathetic promotion IMHO. Maybe I'm just grumpy I will be out of CO the whole time. Bad timing for a rare vacation... :-(

No Cancellara. No Cavendish. But surprisingly, a lot of big names.

Vail and Steamboat race views...

So wife and I will have hopefully completed the Deer Creek Challenge Century on Aug 21st whereas we'll turn our attention to the climbing pros

We've decided to watch the Vail time trial (I-70 will be used...cool) then take off to view the Avon to Steamboat Springs finish the next day. We'll then watch the start of the Steamboat Springs over Rabbit Ears pass down and into Breckenridge the following day.

We're hoping to catch up with my Physiologist who is working with one of the teams to get some close up time about the bus and pros. We'll really appreciate that opportunity to get a closer look.

Certainly we'll be back home to then catch some of the final day in an about Denver.

So...regardless of a bunch of glitches and BS that has and is occurring with this race, it's all good for road cycling and we'll support it the best we can

BTW...we'll be bringing our road bikes and plan to do some road cycling about Steamboat during our stay there. If anyone is riding about there; post up.

For those attending the race anywhere in CO...Have Fun and Enjoy!

We have similiar plans to your's Don.

My bf will be going upslope on Tues with a friend and camping out somewhere. They will watch the climb on Ind. Pass on Weds. I will drive upslope Weds and meet my bf in Glenwood Springs. We will stay in Eagle Weds night and head to Vail for a while on Thurs. Then head to Steamboat on Thurs afternoon. We will stay in SS Th & Fr nights, so we will see them finish in SS and watch either the start or try to go up on Rabbit Ears Pass and see the climb. We will be bringing bikes (touring bikes) to SS to ride all over town.

European style camping along the route for fans!

CDOT and USFS viewing guidelines along the route:
https://bicyclecolo.org/about/pro-rac...csp-pg1213.htm

"Colorado and U.S. officials have announced an unprecedented decision to allow spectators to camp along the race route the night before the USA Pro Cycling Challenge race passes. This European-style of camping along the route ensures great access to the race and its world-class competitors."

Is there really something so amazing about this, that it merits the use of "unprecedented?" What part of it is so "unprecedented?" Blocking road access technically is probably a WAAAYY bigger deal. I wonder if any post in the HISTORY of BF has ever used "unprecedented" four times in one post. This is just plain unprecedented.

Eh, on second thought, it is kinda unprecedented. It includes highway medians and stuff. Cool.

I'm so excited for this. Unfortunately the only stage I can watch is the final stage in the Denver city center. I'm excited for the field sprint in front of the capitol. The biggest climbs in cycling history are ones that I feel most at home at. Cottonwood pass is going to be really awesome, mostly because it finishes at over 12,000 feet and is a dirt road... I know for a fact that some of those big names are going to be busting lungs over these passes.

It appears two more teams are in, including Gobernacion who tore up the Tour of Utah, and EMP-UNE.

Gobernacion has on their team Oscar Sevilla, multiple time Vuelta and Tour de France contender.

I can't decide if I should watch the last stage on Lookout Mountain or on the circuit downtown. I'd get to see them going slower on the mountain, but get to see them eight times downtown...

Normally I would say to hit the climb and circuits are boring, but that doesn't look like a very exciting climb and I doubt they'll be racing it hard. For this particular stage I'd say hang out by the team buses before the stage starts and then head to the finishing circuit. Hanging out by the buses is one of the most fun things you can do.

I'm not really the meet-and-greet type. The article above suggests seeing the start in Golden then heading up the climb, which sounds good, but it is 100% safe to assume that everybody will be allowed to ride up Lookout Mountain Road during the race before the peloton gets there? Obviously the road is "closed", but I'm not really sure what that means.

I love my job. I was planning on taking Thurs & Fri off to go see those stages. But the office manager here just convinced me that I should take Weds off as well so I can see the Independence Pass stage. It was her suggestion.

My bf & his friend are driving up Tues during the day to get a camp spot on the climb to Ind Pass. I will drive up on Tues eve and meet them and camp out with them.

Awesome!

Versus is running a one hour preview today. They will be repeating it several times the next couple of days.

I started a THREAD in the Regional forum that covers Colorado since that's where I initially went looking for discussion.

This is going to be really cool to both see in person and watch on Versus.

On the domestic scene on medium size mountains Rory is an OK climber. But in this race there will be probably 15-20 guys who will make him look silly on big mountains. But it might not matter since there is only one big uphill finish. Some of the big guys who come over the top of the second pass on the queen stage 2-3 minutes behind might be able to catch back on. But for guys 5-7 minutes behind it might be tough to get back up with the lead group.

DVRing it and planning to watch while riding my stationary bike. I'm still recovering from a broken arm so that's all I can ride. The ~12000ft altitude summits will be interesting. I remember how hard it was to feel normal with the oxygen intake on Pikes Peak when I visited Colorado.
