You could mount it backward and then fit a foam fairing around it so it has the same cross section from the bulb to the horn.

Just make sure the faring is functional and not just an aerodynamic aid. We want to keep things legal. If they glue it on at the factory it would probably pass :)

"Sagan's bell against crashes

Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Cannondale) not only displays interesting victory salutes. The current wearer of the green jersey also relies on quite traditional bike components in order to prevent him from crashing. After having his chances annihilated by a fall in the finale of Thursday's stage five, the Slovakian asked his mechanic to mount a bell on his handlebar - indeed, an ordinary, black city bike bell. Let's hope it will get him upright through today's stage from Epernay to Metz. HK

I can see it now becoming a political movement from within the peloton to protest all of those increasingly obnoxious media vehicles in the caravan. It's got to be annoying being in a race and constantly having vehicles honk at you at nearly run you off the road.

OK, I find myself actually rooting for one of these guys now. Sporting a bell in the TdF, I hope he wins!

I am still waiting for some guy on BikeForums who can't carry Sagan's jockstrap call him a "FRED".

Good rider having a great time.... Liking his sence of humor...

eduardo76 07-10-12 09:30 AM

<sarcasm> i don't understand, shouldn't the bell be mounted on the drops so he can use it during sprints? </sarcasm>

refreshing to see this kid having so much fun with his talent!
real question though, will he start to focus his development work on time trialing and climbing so he can be considered a GC contender in years to come? he is young enough!! he will be a killer classics rider regardless!

No media vehicle no great live action shots and no great race day pics...just saying! :)

Why is it that whenever a rider shows great talent, someone questions when or if he will work on becoming a GC rider no matter what type of rider they are?

Because at the end of the day, with the benefit of time, all we will remember are the GC winners. Peter Sagan at 22 and real good still have the opportunity to "train his weaknesses" and become more than a "sprinter".

eduardo76 07-10-12 12:28 PM

i did say "he will be a killer classics rider regardless!" - i was questioning whether you all think if HE'd be interested in doing that or not -

anyways, back to sagan's bell! :)

ckaspar 07-10-12 12:45 PM

During the Tour of California I could not stand him, I am a California native/resident afterall, because I wanted someone from the US to win. Now that the TdF is going on and not many US riders making wrinkles I love Sagan! He is having so much fun riding and it is good to see the old guard having to defend themselves against him when it comes to sprinting. The bell just tops the cake for me.

It's not just a skull, it is the TOURMINATOR!

Please, someone get this bell thing into the "ask Bobke" segment of the broadcast.

lokerola 07-11-12 10:13 PM

Ring, ring - sprinter coming through! I love it. It's good to see a rider having fun for God's sake! And the wheelies rock as well.

All YOU will remember. Some of us have better memories and more diverse interests. I enjoy a classics race as much as any grand tour. You probably haven't heard of Brabantse Pjil. But you you probably ride a TREK.

Who said anything about a grand tour vs classics? I like all kinds of cycling, including even Keirin.

Can you off the top of your head tell me who won the TdF in 1991? Well, I can. For the life of me however, I can't tell you who was the top sprinter. That is my point.

And, for your info, I know what the Brabantse Pjil is.

You didn't. Sagan is more likely to be a great classics rider than a great sprinter. Working on weaknesses? Why do you think the team had him ride certain races this year such as the Tour of Flanders. You don't think he's working on weaknesses? I'm pretty sure he is, but it probably doesn't fit into your narrow definition of weaknesses.

Bet you can't remember or never knew who won the Vuelta or Giro that year.

It appears Jed19 has found a fight whether he wants one or not.

Round 2. Ding, ding.

eddiepliers 07-13-12 08:37 PM

I think he needed the bell when Goss cut him off.

I'm told jockstraps were invented for bicycle jockeys.

Might be natural OEM equipment along w/ handlebar mustache and wine bottle for that vintage track bike.
