He was leaving anyway. He's not going to arbitration and will get a sweetheart deal from Livestrong or get paid handsomely to be Lance's butler.

Butler? LA won't be able to afford a butler by the time the civil lawsuits stop flying. Wait and see. I think the very first one is gonna be SCA Productions suing to get that bonus money back (plus interest, of course).

Well, Johann can always become a full-time dope dealer, or a goon/thug, which is always what comes to my mind when I think of him.

Lance is worth a piss ton of money. SCA may get their money back but at this point it's gas money to him. Other civil suits aren't likely to have merit and others may be directed at the foundation. Plus I'm sure he's got plenty of insurance. He's a shrewd and smart guy.

I don't know about that one. My understanding of the judge's rulings in the SCA case (that led to the settlement) is not that he found that Lance didn't cheat, but that, under the terms of the contract, it didn't matter if he cheated. Now, maybe if the UCI affirms USADA's findings, and ASO then vacates the wins (which they apparently said they will do, if the UCI goes along with the sanctions), then Lance no longer "won" the TdF, and SCA has the beginnings of a case.

But he lied under oath re he'd never doped before. I am not a lawyer, but I understand that there is a legal principle that nothing good follows a lie, or something like that.

Depends on the presumption of guilt, though. My understanding is that there wasn't enough hard evidence to convict him in a court (especially testimony versus hard evidence of passed tests) but USADA has a lower burden of proof (i.e. it can assume he was simply not caught cheating). If it remains that in court the balance of evidence isn't enough to convict him then he might be in the clear (sic).

Hadn't considered the fact that he's no longer won that tour, but the whole it didn't matter whether he doped or not as long as he ended up in the yellow after the last stage was how I understood that ruling too. Still he gets to keep all his fat endorsement money.

The SCA promotions lawsuit was the highest profile, money-related lawsuit in Armstrong's history. Regardless of the eventual outcome, I'd be surprised if that didn't end up back in court in the near future. I think SCA is looking at a minimum of $10MM.

I've assumed that $ cost (as well as personality) is the main reason why we'll never hear an Armstrong confession.

Bruyneel and Lance will never confess but it is interesting watching all of the ex-Posties rushing to the confessional. And this may only be the beginning. Some other teams will likely begin to clean house and the UCI may also experience a cleansing once it is all over. In the long run, this can only be good for the future of professional cycling!

Exactly. Most of the posts on these threads are pretty amusing. People have no idea. Thanks for saying this.

SCA has both a res judicata problem and a statute of limitations problem. They'd likely try to overcome it with a fraudulent concealment type argument, but it would be an uphill battle.

It's difficult to overcome 5 year old judgments.

Even if the court was misled due to a lie?
