Bobby Julich confesses

Another sad day. another fallen idol. Bobby Julich has come clean about doping durung his all too short career.

Dear Team Sky, family, friends, fans, and supporters of cycling,

I would like to preface this statement, by saying that whilst I don't expect all of you to believe some of the things that I am about to say, I don't want to insult anyone’s intelligence any longer and deny that I have never had anything to do with the shady past of professional cycling. This statement is about me and the decisions that I have made in the past.

As more and more come forward it begins to look like they were all doing it, and maybe in a wrong and perverse way, it was a fair bike race. Almost... but not.

Just read this. Not really surprised. Bobby got 3rd in the TDF in '98 and didn't
really perform near as well until he joined CSC in 2004. First time I read about
him he was having a Lemond/Hinult like battle, or so the author said, with his
junior teammate Jonas Carney at some junior stage race. Anyway, just like Lance,
he was doing what "everyone" else in the peloton was doing. And a 13-year pro
career doesn't seem like a "short career" to me.

Seriously, is there any doubt that they were all doping? If USPS/Disco were that good at doping and other teams won than logic dictates that other teams were doping too. That is, unless you believe that:
a) non-doping genetic freaks were able to keep up with the doping genetic freaks

or

b) EPO doesn't help "that" much.

Not surprised by Julich's confession.
And I understand Sky's reluctance to keep anyone with a slight smidgen of doping history.
They are the King's right now and must be perceived as the Fairplay King.
Julich will find a job elsewhere, if he hasn't already.

Interesting that he denies use in 2004 with CSC. Not sure I believe that.

Pre EPO test, it's likely that vast majority were doping.

Post EPO test, where at least you had to time use, and micro does, perhaps the advantage were curtailed enough, and detection chance increased enough that at least some chose to stop doping.

Sky are painting themselves into a corner. Eventually, they are going to have not fire someone. Who will that be? Yates? They sign those two young kids and then fire Julich. Come on! Sky has some great riders but are sure not going to improve cycling by firing everyone. Vaughters approach will have longer legs.

Brailsford has already softened his approach. I think if there was someone who did dope but hasn't in a long while or supports their stance (e.g. Sean Yates) then I think he'd be willing to have an amnesty.

Oh! Another doper from that era? But no...it's evil Lance Armstrong who killed the hopes and dreams of so many aspiring riders, and he was the one that cheated and got an unfair advantage! LOL the best doper won, get over it.

I'd hope so. Used to live around the corner from him and ride with him on occasion. Good guy and very good at working with young riders.

I'd never say never at this point but I'll take him at his word regarding CSC; you'd have to think that the guys detailing the when/where at this point have a pretty short list of reasons why they wouldn't be honest, and it jives with the discussions I'd had with him.

I suspect / speculate that Brailsford is more concerned about not losing the sponsor, than improving cycling. At least, he'd better be.

I think it's well past the sponsor and more about trying to walk the talk.

I mean, it's the Murdoch family we're talking about. Their online dictionary goes 404 when you search for "ethics"

+1

No reason to single out Armstrong. Everyone behaved just like him. Julich also sued a bunch of people to keep them from telling the truth, and paid the UCI for preferential treatment.

Oh wait.. he didn't?

Nevermind then.

So Julich comes forward and his reward is to lose his job. Note to the rest of you...keep your mouths shut and keep your job.

Boy people are stupid.

Which is exactly why I think he has a good idea of where he is going next.

Bobby Julich went the proper route....He doped but didn't dominate and he'll be forever loved and pitied. Only non Americans are allowed to dope AND dominate.
