No prologue, straight into the racing :)

Stage 1, Porto-Vecchio - Bastia, 213 km

Flattish stage, one for the sprinters. Obviously Mark Cavendish will be massively interested in getting into the yellow jersey for the first time, but everyone will be absolutely wired up to the moon, so I really think it could go to someone like Bouhanni or Goss.

They're already up and running, hasn't gone smoothly for Froomey and the skybots. Froome has punctured and another sky rider needed a bike change in the neutral zone.

For any fellow Irish supporters, Nico Roche is number 97 and Dan Martin is 175

Someone that deserves a special mention I think is Orica's Svein Tuft, riding his first ever TDF at age 36. To date he is probably most remembered for his performance in stage 2 of the 2012 Tirreno Adriatico, where he rode solo in front of the peloton for 200km. During the race, he reportedly burnt 6500 calories. Cav tweeted the following - "Ride of the day.. No, make that ride of the millennium, goes to GreenEDGE’s Svein Tuft. 200km ALONE controlling the peloton! Respect".

Lobato of Euskaltel Euskadi will be the first wearer of the polka-dot jersey, took the points on the world's smallest "mountain".

Crazy man, crazy.

Those eyes: weird.

Gladius 06-29-13 09:49 AM

Holy cr*p, what chaos today.

Forget the stage winner, test that bus driver.

Haha, that was crazy. Why didn't they just deflate the tires and back up?

they finally did just that. The driver had to finish crying first.

any bus or truck driver that doesn't know how tall his rig is had no business driving.

It apparently wasn't the driver's fault. They knew the height of all the vehicles coming through and still managed to hang the sign to low.

And that crash was amazing. I'm amazed Sagan rode away from that one.

Apparently it was.

“He had to stop and demand authorization to lift the portico,” said Jean-Louis Pagès, the Tour’s site director, who oversees the start and finish of each stage. “Clearly, he didn’t do it.”

Eurosport commentator said the portico had been lowered so it appears it is something that is raised to allow busses access to team area.

Yetidave 06-29-13 02:27 PM

Ah, got it. I stand corrected.

Mike F 06-29-13 02:30 PM

After watching the crash at the end I wondering how the bikes fared. I wish VeloNews or somebody would do a pictorial on the bikes after a major wreck. Kinda of put the whole carbon thingy in perspective (since many riders hop back on).

Zinger 06-29-13 03:21 PM

So it was Orica-GreenEdge that got fined for coming across late according to the timetable for team vehicles arriving at the finish. He was supposed to stop and ask for authorization once he missed the timetable.

Just a chaotic scene for a finish all this caused.

What a farking mess. So many guys banged up, Tony Martin out, Sagan totally jacked up, some other guys are probably damaged now, including AC. Looks like the crash was Greipel's fault, based on what NBC showed and I agreed with their assessment. Totally unprofessional finish, all the way around. Everyone...get your act together!

"Oh a massive pile-up!"--Paul Sherwen

Zinger 06-30-13 05:10 AM

According to John Degenkolb, Argos-Shimano's radios weren't working momentarily yesterday which enabled them to totally focus on the finish as usual since they weren't even aware of the bus incident until after the stage.
