Wiggo jumping ship???

Interesting.....

Orica-Greenedge admit interest in signing Bradley Wiggins | Sport | The Guardian

jyl 05-29-14 05:25 PM

Seems he would only be a part time road rider in 2015, if he really plans on competing in the 2016 Olympic track events. And he'd be at track weight, meaning he could only really be competitive in the flat classics. Does OGE want to sign a pricey rider just for Paris-Roubaix and a few other races? For that matter, does Sky? As for Wiggins, if he crashes and is injured on the cobbles, that could derail his track preparation, is it really worth it?

sprince 05-30-14 07:23 PM

Matt White said Wiggins is “definitely a rider who would fit into this group”. That pretty much sums it up. Sky seems to be a team that just sucks the life out of riders until they finally get tired of it and move on. I think it would be a good move for him.

ColnagoC40 06-03-14 11:03 AM

The politics of whether Wiggo is selected for the SKY TDF team is interesting, so are the latest comments from Froomey. May be an interesting event should they end up in the same team.

Jed19 06-03-14 12:10 PM

Wiggo is an excellent rider, but IMHO, he does not currently fit on the SKY Team. The 2012 TdF he won was because Froome was held back to tow Wiggo up the mountains. Personally, I think Wiggo should focus on the classics and/or track cycling.

I mean, Froome is presently the best GC rider on SKY, and how does Wiggo help him in any grand tour? And then add the drama between the two, and I can only conclude it's bound to be distracting.

jyl 06-03-14 12:14 PM

If I were Froome, I would not pick Wiggins for my TdF team. Wiggins is a powerful rider for sure, but Sky has a lot of strong domestiques.

Yep! Richie Porte being the most important domestique on that team. And without the drama too!

Chattel Cyclists , they are a commodity, Brands sold and traded ..

but maybe Sir Bradley is eligible for a seat in the House of Lords in Government, by Now.
form a coalition government with Sir Chris Hoy.

dstrong 06-05-14 12:32 PM

A Wiggo/Froome battle on opposing teams for the TdF would make an interesting storyline.

Sir Dave Brailsford is a true Brit and a Knight. Sir Wiggo is a Knight. Froome is a noob naturalized Brit. Can't wait to see what happens.

Interesting storyline/drama? Of course, but Wiggo is not in the same category as a GC rider as Froome. Wiggo does not win that 2012 TdF if he had not been towed up the mountains by Froome. That is the fact! I think Froome got a raw deal, as he was clearly the best GC rider on that Sky 2012 TdF team.

And Brailsford knew it.

jyl 06-05-14 05:14 PM

Although Wiggins did take almost 2 minutes off Froome in the two time trials, in the 2012 TdF.

That means next to nothing since Froome was doing domestique duty. It's actually surprising he didn't lose more time either from the fatigue of working for Wiggo or by saving himself for upcoming stages.

seanthebear 06-06-14 02:58 AM

So its official.....Wiggo will not ride TDF, from his own mouth. I dunno if he'd be a good fit for Orica tho'. That's a team that doesn't suffer prima donna's and let's face it Sir Wig is a prima donna.

^^He's just stating the obvious.

How's he a prima donna?

It's a great shame that Wiggins will not be riding the TDF given that the first couple of stages are in Yorkshire. The British cycling fans will be disappointed. Wiggins is much loved for his success in the Olympics and the TDF and Froome just doesn't have the same relationship with the British fans. Given that Wiggins has said that Froome is the leader and that he'd ride in support, his exclusion says a lot about the internal politics at Sky and Wiggins' form. Sky were probably scared of how much time he'd take out of Froome in the time trials and all the press around that.

They are both very strong riders and the idea of either one working as a domestique is absurd. This should have happened sooner.

The words "probably" and "If Chris has an accident" still leaves a small chance. Interesting few weeks ahead, with both Wiggo and Froome having to perform at their own race.

While I may agree, it means observing human behavior, to see if there are enamored muppets.

Froome already shunted Wiggins off the TdF team

unless he wants to ride GC for Orica, he's going to be watching the Tour like the rest of us, on Sir TV

You are probably correct at this stage, but I still have about 5% of hope left that you may be wrong. Let's see what happens in Criterium du Dauphine and Tour de Suisse.

Froome does not want Wiggins, because he is scared that Wiggins may do what he (Froome) tried to do in the 2012 tour and get away with it. Froome is still whining about having to the job he was payed to do in 2012.

what?? Froome isn't scared of Wiggins
Froome doesn't want a ****** on the team. Neither would I. Wiggins has zero chance of winning the Tour again... unless, as Wiggins hopes, all the other gc guys crash.

And if you want to blame anyone for 2012, blame "Sir" Brailsford.

We'll revisit this in a few weeks before the Tour starts. Unbiased here. You may be right, you may be wrong, just don't like the way Froomey is behaving the last weeks.

drink the wiggo kool aid much?

I'm sick of Wiggins crying like a schoolgirl, every time his panties get in a bunch.
Then, go off and "focus on track" when he doesn't get his way. Boo frickin hoo

“If he crashes there, there’d still be a chance I could come into the team,” Wiggins said. "As it stands, all being well, Chris staying fit and healthy that’s the team that’ll roll out of Harrogate."

Yeah Wiggins is a class act
