My money is on Caven, uhhh, I mean Kittel. 
He is the class of the sprinters right now and if his team can give him a lead out, which is a question lately, he should be in for the win. But you can't count out Kristoff, who had a real breakout Tour this year.
I wish Farrar was there...

My favorite was in '87 when 7-11 rider Jeff Pierce won it with a late breakaway (Just after 30:30). The sprinter doesn't necessarily have to win this stage and I think it more a thriller with an escape and close chasing group to the line.

A lot of the buildup talking about how there's 2 French on the podium for "the first time in 40 years." But Hinault finished 2nd to Fignon in '84, which is 30 years ago by my sums.
Oh, and in 74, Merckx won with Spain's Vicente Lopez-Carril 3rd.
Not that I'm not used to Phil and Paul getting a stat wrong, but they don't usually get it completely wrong, and then persist in being wrong long after they could've checked it.

Most likely. I've come very close to crashing on paint strips, even in completely dry weather. Also, it looks like he tapped his front brake just before his front wheel skidded.

I figured he braked while his front wheel was in midair off a cobble and came down stopped. I have been using schwalbe tires that have great grip on that thermoplastic road paint but yeah I don't aspire to even top out at the kind of average speeds these guys roll at.

He won the overall lantern rouge by almost an hour over his nearest rival.

The speeds these guys are riding at are just incredible in this stage. I really thought Kristoff was going to take it from Kittel. Kittel really had to earn that one! I have to wonder if the flat Kristoff got was the difference at the line. He had to do a lot to catch the peloton. How the heck do you chase down a peloton at these speeds?! For me, Kristoff was the surprise of the Tour.

I think I remember in one year they decided that the time differences wouldn't be counted after the riders crossed the line in Paris the first time, ie the 8 laps were just a parade to determine the stage winner.
