Chris Horner

It isn't looking great for Chris Horner. I'm bummed. His 2013 Vuelta was so exciting. And he is the first American winner of a Grand Tour since Greg LeMond.

What do you think? Will he pull a rabbit out of a cycling cap and be in the pro peleton next year? If not, I hope he writes a book.

What makes you say that?

I know he is up there in age for a pro, so it wouldn't be a shock if he retired. How much longer could he really go?

I have no doubt he will become an announcer when he is done with racing. He is funny, knowledgeable, and likeable, so he is a real natural for the booth...

Not renewed at Lampre. Agent saying only one more chance at a Euro team, after that remaining possibilities are in US.

I really wanted to see him defend his Vuelta. He was fresh, like in 2013, which would have been interesting as Contador, Froome were still recovering. Stupid MPCC cortisol rule.

He'd make a good commentator, I agree. But over two decades in the pro peleton, from hard scrabble living in a van to the top Pro Tour bus, I'd like to read some of those stories.

I see a McDonald's franchise in his future. Maybe a Krispy Kreme or two.

Good grief, do you really think Horner could ever look like that?

It should illegal to make anything out of Lycra in a size that big!

Horner's agent says he has a deal with an "up and coming" domestic US team, not on the WT (so not BMC, Trek, etc).

The strong rumor right now is Airgas-Safeway.

Not sure what he plans to accomplish there or what his goals would be or how it helps his legacy, but I guess it'll be good to see him still riding...

Maybe he wants to end his career with a TOC win? Seems unlikely that team will get invited to major European races.

I think that guess is as good as any.

Sometimes though, you should go out while on top. It's not like this move will ever lead him back to a major team. He will go out in this lesser class of racing and prove...what exactly? That's the question. Jens did it right IMHO...

Horner's team didn't get an invite to the ToC. Bummer.
