If you are wanting a nice route, drive to where I suggested. Ride down to Pony Pasture then take an out and back on Riverside Drive. Make your way back to Forest Hill Ave. Get on Forest Hill and head towards downtown. As soon as you cross 76/Powhite Parkway left onto Pineway Drive which becomes Riverside Drive again. Stay on it. You might have to make a turn or two, but it will take you all of the way to the Lee Bridge. Cross there and you are where you need to be. Beautiful ride with some outstanding views and some climbs that might test your legs.

Thanks much for the tips, I plan to take your advice to forgo riding from Pocahontas. Drove down to the Richmond NASCAR Sprint Cup race last night & was reminded how narrow/shoulderless many of the roads are. Heh, just parking at the Richmond Sprint Cup race is a challenge w/the amazingly complex parking scheme incl numerous satellite parking lots. One has to take careful notes & even then it can be tough to find the car. Had to use my phone to not only find my parking area but help rescue two lost couples! Race was awesome though. Henrico etc cops do a superb job at managing the traffic & are polite & helpful to the lost folks.

We're gonna start seeing more and more pros filtering in to town now that the Vuelta is over, exciting times.
I rode up Libby Hill on Sunday near the end of a ride, I forgot just how damn rough those cobbles are.The fight for the smooth concrete gutter on the inside of Libby Hill will be interesting as well, it's soooo much easier to climb smoothly on that than on the cobbles.

I had to run MTT yesterday instead of Saturday because of the weather. RVA is looking good! I think the races will look spectacular on TV/media. The road course is perfect for both the racers and the fans. I'm getting pumped!

Friend just updated me that she's in line for coffee behind a couple of Boels-Dolman female racers who were previewing the TTT circuit. It is going to be SO HARD to concentrate at work these next 2 weeks.

Apparently a number of time trial teams have been training on Broad St, based on reports from friends out that way. That's probably the single worst road in the city to ride on, clearly not everyone did research on routes before coming here!
Also, Guatemalan national champ came out for 2 nights of racing against local amateurs, finished 2nd each time to Ben King's uncle who is probably the fastest non-pro sprinter I've seen. Very cool to see a national champion's jersey in the pack.

Peter Sagan just posted a photo of the Tinkoff boys preparing for TTT practice in front of the Courtyard Marriott over by the airport in Richmond's east end. Our Sunday group ride will apparently have some "special guests" who are most likely USA U23 riders, that should make things interesting. Gonna finish on the TTT course to watch, can't wait.

So a friend just came across a few Team Sky riders hitting the Belle Isle mountain bike pump track with their Dogmas. This just keeps getting more and more exciting.

That's a bit surprising, ie the Dogmas. Maybe Sky regularly uses the Dogmas as comfy training bikes? BTW on Richmond2015.com site I see that they have a free phone app incl live video streaming. Site doesn't specify if app includes leader board/positions but hopefully that will be included. I'm getting superstitious about the weather. Normally the area by now has gotten some cooler rainy weather but we're in the midst of a long hot/dry spell. I hope it won't rebound with a damp spell during the Worlds.

It's still looking very positive for the week-
Sunday for the men's RR may be cool. It's very foggy right now as I get ready to meet a group to watch some TTT practice.

A bunch of us rode the road course before TTT practice with Frankie Andreu. We also rode a good bit of the TTT course until the first two teams n the course caught us and we turned off. A buddy ran into him at the airport and we found him a bike and arranged to meet and ride. Seems like a cool guy.

& nice photo of the Lampré TTT riders. I'm a bit surprised the pros have flown in early to train. But I guess the schedule is arranged so they don't have other big races to worry about the week or two before Worlds.

I saw an article about one of the TT bikes being stolen in Richmond. Is the city really that rough or would that be more of an isolated incident?

Evelyn Stevens TT bike was stolen and then recovered the following day. This is more of an isolated incident. It was stolen out of the hotel where she is staying. Like any city we have our crime but in general downtown is pretty safe.

That was pretty nice of y'all to fix Andreu up with a ride. At Montreal Worlds I was quite surprised to see many pros/amateurs leaving race bikes laying around unattended. Probably not a great idea for Richmond. Took an old 3-speed up to Montreal & while I didn't get no respect from the crowd at the youth hostel it was a good choice since some folks got wheel damage from big expansion joints on local bridges. Motorcycle cops were pretty aggressive during pro road race: some rode about 1 m away from curb & would aim at feet of any spectators not off the roadway.

Governor St. Climb is a great place to get really, really close to the riders. They're also not moving at 35 mph unlike that other shot on Lakeside. Can't wait for this weekend, I may end up taking off Thursday/Friday to spend all day spectating/riding around.
If any of you out of towners want to join up with a group ride, my friends are running rides sponsored by lululemon this week with free coffee and ending at spectating spots after casual paced 2 hour rides. PM me if you're interested and I'll send you details.
