Walke-talkie or two-way radio recommendations?

We have a Weehoo recumbent trail-a-bike. I love riding with my 4-year-old, but I can't understand him when he talks to me unless he shouts.

He would loooooooove a walkie-talkie.

Any recommendations for a two-way radio setup that (A) is rechargeable and (B) allows a hands-free mode so I can keep biking while I have a conversation with the little one? Preferably affordable?

Or is there some other solution I'm not thinking of? I'm not stuck on the walkie-talkies if something else would work.

Thanks!

You mean you haven't bought your kid his own cell phone + bluetooth yet?

Here are a couple of threads you might find interesting.

They're kind of old, but might get you pointed in the right direction. I think there was a comment a few days ago about an intercom system, but I can't remember the thread.

Ahh, maybe this was it.

Try Googling intercom systems for motorcycles. Some wired setups are pretty cheap. Battery powered, but you may have get rechargeable batteries to be able to satisfy that requirement.

They are essentially riding a tandem bicycle. Motorcycles have 12v alternators, and motorcycle intercom systems usually expect that power to be available. Tandem bicycle intercom systems of which there are several are powered by standard batteries.

Have you looked at FRS (Family Radio Service) radios? They are small and inexpensive. They might suit your needs.

You can buy used FRS walkies super cheap on eBay and CL, too. Consumer radios dont typically have the range they advertise, but for what the OP wants to use them for I think they'd work great.

Terrano-x, previously Cardo BK-1. Works great. I have 4 paired so I can communicate with my 2 stokers on our triplet tandem and my wife on her separate bike. Voice activated, noise cancellation, rechargeable. Can even pair with you cell phone for music and phone calls. Terrano
