Bickerton Pilot for 8yo - it fits!
The urban bike shops in Mexico City seem to have gotten a shipment of Bickerton Portables. These are nice, not super-luxurious folding bikes.
I just purchased one for my daughter, who is 8 years old. This is the bike - Pilot 1406 Country - Bickerton Portables
It fits her, barely! But after a little practice, she seems to have gotten the hang of it.
Had to saw off about 10 cm off the bottom of the seatpost, so it wouldn't be too close to the ground for the height which she requires.
The posture she achieved is not as upright as she likes, but she can reach the handlebars just fine. She'll get used to it.
The crank arms are just a bit too long. She manages to pedal, and at child speeds I don't think she'll be hurting her knees. I do wish the cranks were shorter. Maybe I'll look for a crank shortener, not sure yet.
It's really nice that the bike comes stock with fenders, rack, and elastic straps for the rack.
The next day, my wife wanted one too, so we got her one as well.
It is SO INCREDIBLY NICE to be able to fit all our bikes in the trunk of our sedan! I already have a folder. This should make it easier to have cycling-themed weekends.
