Fun ride with the Mrs. :)

We live south of the city of Colorado Springs in a township in El Paso county called Security. Being in the county there's NO real bike paths, trails, lanes ect. At 60+ with med. problems we aren't long distance or fast riders, we ride Del Sol Comfort bicycles and have found only one, mellow trail to get into Colorado Springs. The Pikes Peak Greenway is a north/south trail, dirt/limestone pebble mix and concrete but to get the PPGW, we have to take a back road to an old road that was closed. Pick up the bikes over a 4 ft. high rock/dirt mound to cross the railroad tracks and pick up an old highway (85/87), then a back road (Las Vegas St.) over to the PPGW trail head.

The trail is along Fountain Creek and has had a lot of flood damage since 2015. They've finally repaired all 4 sections of the trail that were taken out by flooding as of August 2017! We rode the 7.5 miles on the trail into downtown at "America The Beautiful park". A quick rest room stop, then lunch at a great pastry place. Back down the trail to the highway and over the railroad tracks and home. It's a bit of a PIA to get to the trail but we had a fun time anyway, a good day for a "recreational ride"! https://coloradosprings.gov/PPGWtrailfema

Sounds awesome! My husband isn't a biker, but he's gone with us a couple times and rented a bike. My 7 yr old and I went for a beautiful 14 mile ride over the weekend and averaged 10mph on a trail that's beside a river. We had an awesome ride too 😃 Here's to more beautiful rides in the future.
