5 year kids bikes…. ?

My son is 4 years old, 26 kilo and tall!
So looking for a bike for a big boy… probably 16-20″ wheels…
found Fuji Dynamite 20 Bike on a site…. price almost 500..
anything better out there, on that budget… could stretch it a bit…
Thanx !

Where are you?
Look on your Craiglist or Facebook Market Place.

For my kid six was too early for a 20" bike with gears even though he was outgrowing his 16er. But at nearly 8 he's already outgrowing his 20" despite not really using it to its potential. Can't win! I think he will make it to Christmas before needing a 24" but he might have to wait for 9.

Craigslist is full of old kid bikes from Trek and Specialized and you can customize it and make it feel new. That's what I did. You can adjust fit for a kid bike with stem and bar sweep, not just saddle, just like for an adult bike.

There are a lot of mail order bikes in the middle quality level. Mostly single speed coaster brake. The ones at Dick's are better than Walmart/Target and the ones at REI are better than Dick's.

Research here but don't get indoctrinated...

I'm impressed with the quality of woom bikes. I've bought two for my grandsons. Either the 3 or 4 based on your description.

I'll second the recommendation for Woom bikes. They're really well made.

Kids outgrow bikes quickly. I got my daughter an 18” bike when she was 3, it was big for her then, but she’s 7 now, and can still ride it. Next will be a 24” bike (common here in Japan), and then a full-size bike. If I had a boy, I’d get a good 20” BMX bike, this would last long enough to use until high school, unless he were going riding with me, in which case I’d get him something bigger with gears (I do a lot of long rides).

The used market may be where you should look. Facebook Marketplace can offer up a good deal on a slightly used bike. Your kid will outgrow it again in a few years again anyway.

But, lots of bike shops offer a trade up program where you can bring your used, now too small, bike in for credit on the next size for your little one.

Good luck!

It seems to me like there are really two paths for premium kids bikes. One path is Go For A Bike Ride and the other path is Bike Skills. Woom, Islabikes, and so on are the former, the champion of the latter is Spawn

Woom bikes do look amazing if you want to afford them. They're pretty expensive but they are really good. I haven't been able to justify it for my boys, they so far have used Hotrocks picked up for a song and customized. But my girl is on a used Spawn Banshee and loving it and I anticipate she's going to get all the best stuff.

We have a Raleigh Lily 20 and very happy with it. Says its for girls but you wouldn't know it by looking at it - it's yellow/green in color. The boys' equivalent is Raleigh Rowdy 20 but I cannot see any differences between the two. They are nearly half the price of the Fuji Dynamite, and even better in the used market if you're lucky to see them there.

This Fuji Dynamite 20 will be better choice if want to for mtb but if want to normal road ride then there have another good option like Vitus 20 and GT Performer Lil 16 Bike.. Nice and light well built. We have one we used for little one.
