Lightweight childen's bikes

This link popped up on a UK forum and its just so good you need to know.
Lightweight, efficient, well proportioned bikes for little people. They are affordable, not cheap.

depending upon age I saw a couple of cool options. A local shop had some Redlines (or at least I think thats what they were) racing bmx bikes. These bikes had narrow rims and tires that were very narrow. I would guess that they were the equivelent of 28c widths. THey had them in both slicks as well as a tread that you would find on a cx bike. They also seemed very light compared to other kids bikes. They were ranging in price from around $350 - $450 depending upon the model.

THey also had a Trek road bike with Shimano Sora/Tiagra on it. It didn't have 700c wheels it had some other size that I do not remember, but they were definatly road bike tires and wheels. It was a real road bike but smaller than you can get any 700c road bike. I can't wait till my daughter gets to that age to get one of those instead of a heavy mtb that everyone else gets.

If you want more details on these two I can get it for you.

The Redlines are Mini or Junior BMX bikes. They use 20x1 1/8 tires, this bikes are single speeds for BMX racing. Haro and others make Mini/Junior bikes.

The roadie is a Trek KDR 1000, it's what my son is currently racing on. It has 24x1 road tires and a combination of Sora and Tiagra components. Orbea and other manufacturers do 24" road bikes.

Here's my kid on his '05 KDR 1000. He races it on road and track events.

thanks for putting the pics of those up. they just really seem to be what I have seen people looking for.

Also cool pic of your son racing. However I will say that for some reason kids on their road bikes look kind of funny. I think it is a proportion thing. The other kid kind of looks like he is this monster on this tiny little bike.

Completelly agree, the bikes look really small with them on the saddle.

Both kids are about the same height but mine has the stem on a positive rise while the other is on a negative.
