Rear rack for Trail-a-bike

My son and I go out for some longish rides. When he had his Burley trailer, I'd pack stuff in the back of it and we'd have everything we needed (even for 80 mile rides with plenty of stops). Now he's got a trail-a-bike and there's nowhere to put stuff. I bought a rack for the thing that doesn't fit. It's not even close. The trail-a-bike is an Adams folder, single speed, brand spankin new. I'd like something that I can put a trunk on as well as hang panniers on... we do some camping/touring and he loves it.

ANy advice you can offer would be GREATLY appreciated.

Can you put front racks on your bike? If you do not have the right attachment points someone here could probably tell you how.

I ride a mountain bike with a suspension fork and disc brakes... that makes mounting a rack considerably harder (unless i fork over some BIG bucks for a rear rack). . . Do you have any suggestions for such a beast?

Hook the Burley trailer up behind the Trail-A-Bike.

Rear racks for mountain bikes are extra expensive?

Not a mountain bike, but I use rear "grocery" panniers on both sides plus a messenger bag to carry things for extended outings. Also use them to carry the child's backpack on the way to school every day.

Putting lots of weight back there, especially as your child gets older, probably isn't a good idea ... but hey ... you could put one of those "air" racks that attaches to the stem back there. They're rated for 25 lbs. Then put another 25 lbs in a back-back that your child wears

I don't remember the manufacturer... but there's a company that makes a rear rack that doesn't use the drop-outs to secure the load. It uses some sort of bracket that mounts onto the QR skewer. I seem to remember it being $150-$200... but I could be wrong.

I have used an Alley Cat brand 1 speed pedal trailer for both my daughter and son. I have used a front low-rider alloy fork rack with small panniers in order to carry stuff. This has worked out well for the fact that there is no way that I can use a rear rack on my bike (previously a 10 year old Trek 7500 hybrid and now a new Trek hybrid ) because of the trailer attachment to the seat post. The front lowrider racks have a low center of gravity and as long as you do not overstuff the small to medium panniers you will be OK.
When I used a Burely d'Lite covered trailer there was plenty of room to carry all of our junk. Now with the pedal trailer I am more limited. My wife usually rides with us and has an alloy rear rack on her Ladies hybrid in which she has mounted a rectangular trunk rack.
Other ideas: A small square handlebar bag to hang on the childs trailer handlebar: a handlebar bag to hang on your adult bike.
Good luck !

I have this bag hanging on the handles of the trail-a-bike:

This gives a place for the child to carry a drink and misc. items. That way we can pause for a break and not have to go bag-diving for refreshments.

In the past, I've also mounted this unit sideways on my top-bar. This gives me a handy "dashboard" for quick items.
