Monday night rides.

For several years we've been riding with a group near St. Louis every Monday night during daylight savings time. On a big Monday night, we'll have over 100 riders. The route is dead flat and there are route variations up to about 30 miles. With that many riders, it's not hard to find someone who wants to ride about your pace. Afterward, many of the riders invade a local restaurant to undo any training benefit of the ride.

My favorite ride was June 30,1974 in Berkley, Michigan. There was a handsome man and lady sitting on a fence waiting for the ride to begin. I asked if either of them wanted to follow the bike route to Detroit, the man did. It was love at first sight.

It was the American Youth Hostel Brunch Ride. We rode with the group to IHOP where the forward acting man bumped me over in a booth. At the end of the ride, we went back and refilled our water bottles, then rode to Detroit on the bike route and back. He went home at 11:30pm We had been together for 15 hours.

April 30 of this year we will celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary. Our 25th anniversary present was a tandem.
