Aren't any of you "recreational" riders riding? The last post was Dec 23.
I'll be out today. The high temperature is supposed to be about 58F (14C). Unseasonably warm. :D |
Hardly anyone reads the forum.
I stopped posting. |

Recreational riders could be called fair weather riders. As long as they ride, they're cyclists to me.

I'm too busy reading the forum to ride. Besides, I have a cold. Maybe next year.

I went cross country skiing in Frisco today. Am staying at our condo in Summit County, CO
Beautiful, beautiful day - sunny and about 28 degrees. |
Here in Wisconsin we only have about 8 months max to ride. The trails I ride anyway. The other 4 months are for hunters, skiers, snowmobilers, and crazies. Below 50 degrees and I just can't stay warm enough to ride. Heck, it has to be 80+ just to get warm in 5 miles. At 65 I won't break a sweat even doing 50+ miles. I do this for fun, and it just ain't when it's below 50 degrees.

Today it is supposed to get up to 66F (19C). Waahooo!!! What a way to start 2004. :) |
I go to about 40-45F.
Have done colder, but not much fun for me. |
I have been out in the 30s. I don't do it anymore. Wore a ski mask and eye protection etc. To me, water streaming out of your eyes and fingers you can't feel is no fun. I suffered from frostbite on my fingers and toes when I was young. I'll wait until it warms up, which could be as soon as tomorrow cause it's supposed to get to the upper 40s here. But the 30 mph winds could deter me.
Some crazy people around here like to do polar bear plunges at this time of the year. I don't consider that sane. When people ask about my rides and find I consider 25 miles an easy ride you can just about see their jaw drop. Usually followed by the comment of they'd just die if they tried that. It's all in the perception. |
Megaman I'm with you. A few years back I would say, "I don't care how cold it is as long as the sun is shining". However at 82 years old I won't ride if it is below 62o F. I don't know what it is but the older I get the colder I can get. Of course I live in Southern California near the Rose Parade.
