Happy Day! I bought my wife a bicycle!

Hey all,

This post is just to celebrate my happiness. For four years I have wanted my wife to ride with me and she has finally bit the bullet. The oddest part is that she suggested it. I guess she was tired of joining me while pulling my son in the Burly and her on the roller blades for 9 miles.

We went to the bike shop today and I decided to interject as little as possible. I wanted her to find the best bike with the best fit no matter the brand, components or color. She picked out a new model by Specialized. Apparently for 2009 they have a new Globe series that looks remarkably like the current Crossroads. She hasn't ridden in 19 years but did very well on her first ride with me.

Anyhow, here is a picture of her 2009 Specialized Globe:

I have the 2008 model of that and just love it. I was very resistent to the idea of bike riding until I rode this bike and now I am the bike nut in the family. Good luck and nice bike! (PS, mine has the same bike seat on it and I sometimes pull a trailer too since I have two little one. A real workout on hills, but it works)

Thanks Joyful!

I will be the primary rider who pulls the little one. I use a Burly D'lite trailer. However, she wanted a seat so that if she chose to ride with the little one while I am at work (can I get so lucky?) she has the option. Wish her (me) the best of luck with that.

Thank you again!

My wife just picked out a Specialized Crossroads WD 2008 for her anniversary present. She loves it and I am elated that she has been on it 4 straight days. A trail ride Sunday and rode to work every day this week.
She picked the champagne color and added a rack.It looks cool and evidently Specialized is on to something here with their woman's design

My wife just acquired this. I'd went to the shop and checked out what all they had, I gave her the web sites for Cannondale, Trek, Giant, Specialized. When we arrived I told the owner, sell her a bike, after trying out a few she decided on this bike.
She was tired of watching the kids and I riding of the evenings, it only took a few trips for that to happen.

congrats.

congrats... I just got mine a pre-loved '02 crossroads for her birthday - need to change the seat for her but otherwise seems like it'll do the trick. Also got a trailer from nashbar to tote our 16 month old... sure adds a bit of effort! We went out on our first family ride around the neighborhood today.

My wife let me buy her a new bike last week too.... She had a awesome looking Raleigh Retro Glide 7 (3 years old with 280 miles on it). She used it for rides around the block, with the kids. 2 weeks ago, my mom who is very VERY active into cycling got us passes for a 27 mile rail and trail. My wife did it on the heavy Reto Glide- ughhh she was whooped. Too heavy a bike. She had fun though, so much we have another ride this weekend for 17 miles planned on a trail.

SO, Saturday we "happened" to be by my local bike shop and I took her in and had the owner spend some time with her (no involvement from me-at all)... All I asked of her was to listen to the sales/owner- try as many bike as she liked and keep it under $500. We also worked a trade on the Retro Glide. She ended up picking a 08- Detour4.0 (Raleigh). We went that night and did 10 miles averaging 13 MPH.... She was tearing it up.

So happy I spent the $ for her to get a solid rail/trail path bike... She is using it every day now.

My wife and I just ordered Specialized Crosstrail elites, 2009, We just started riding about 3 months ago and were using big box Schwinns. We have enjoyed it so much we decided to upgrade. The problem is we had to lay the bikes away so it will be about 2 to 3 months before we get the new ones to try.

I too recently experienced joy when my wife decided she wanted a bike. But here's the kicker: she didn't know HOW to ride a bike so it was up to me to teach her! We bought a department store special (not Walmart, Sports Authority, which remarkably was put together well) and went riding. After about 20 minutes on the first attempt, she had the balance down and was riding down a small path on her own. This past weekend was lesson #2 and she was launching herself and started practicing her turns which she was getting a handle on. I'm so impressed and proud of her! Not sure if this next part matters, but she's nearing age 40 so I guess it proves you're never too old to learn something new. I can't wait for the next lesson.

Nice looking bike. Note to bike manufacturers: please notice that the bikes that women are choosing are devoid of flowers or goofy graphics! (Can you tell I've got an ax to grind here?) I passed over some otherwise very nice bikes simply because I would be embarrassed by their paint jobs. I'm not a little girl, I don't want a bike to match My Pretty Pony! Hrumph!

I bought my wife a Cannondale Adventure 400 at the beginning of the season this year. She hasn't owned a bike since she was a kid (pre-teens). Now we do our grocery shopping via two wheels. She even goes on solo evening rides for some "peace and quiet".

Money well spent!

Got my wife a new bike 2 weeks ago, she also had a problem with the flowers and ended up picking out a Raleigh Retroglide in pink and purple. She did add a bell to it and wanted a basket in case she decided to ride and go grocery shopping but the lbs didnt have a large enough one that would fit the tall handlebars on her bike. So far she doesnt ride alone yet but does tell me lets go riding after she gets home from work fairly often.
