Shimano 3 speed internal hub and bike trailer

Hello, I am looking at buying the Electra Coaster 3 with an internal Shimano hub.
We would like to attach an InStep children trailer to the bike. The trailer is attached
to the rear axle. Is this possible? Would it cause any hub problems?

The bike store employee said some folks have had problems with the hub afterwards.
A different store employee said it should not be a problem.

Thanks

What type of hub problems? My first thught was that three gears is nota lot for pulling a trailer. Not just becouse offew gears but becouse they are so far apart. Ewen on a flar area it can be difficult finding a good gear for pulling a trailer and also finding a gear for riding without the trailer on the same bike without changing the sprocket.

I am not sure about new Shimano 3 hubs but my old one has got this lump in the end of the axel that could maybe be a problem with some hitches. IGH`s is quite common so a lot of the trailers has got solutions for IGH hubs. And then there is DIY.. In the Utility hread there is quite a lot of discussion / pics about trailers and hitches.

The bike shop may have been talking about the durability of the hub. The Nexus 3spd is not meant for extreme forces, but I don't think pulling a trailer would be to harsh. Mounting may be a problem if the mounting point is on the axle. The anti rotation washers may be in the way. But if you can use a mount like the Burley Classic that wedges itself in the rear triangle you should be okay.

I had my Burley with the Classic hitch mounted to my Electra Deluxe w/ 7spd Nexus hub.

Looking at Instep online it doesnt look like they offer options as to the mounting point. You may be able to buy the Burley Hitch to use on the Instep.
