Suggestions for family bike

Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get some suggestions.

We are a family of two (and a half), my husband and I are both around 5'4" and we have 2 year old daughter. We plan to do some road, bike path and dirt path riding but either with a child's seat on my husband's bike or eventually a trailer.

We have looked at Giant and Trek Expedition bikes and hybrid and comfort so far but we are limited on the budget we have. I've also looked at Craigslist to try to find a used bike but I'm pretty lost.

Any suggestions?

I am of the opinion that any bike you like and ride sprinkled with weight, durability and proper function and you have the perfect bike for you.

Craigslist is a great place to look. You are going the right route in defining what bikes you are looking for. That way you can wait for them to show up on Craigslist. Depending on the condition expect to pay about 50-85% of retail. The newer and/or in demand, the higher the price. Keep looking is about the only advice I have. Unfortunately, there is less of a market in the smaller frame bikes.

If you are going to get a trailer, I recommend getting one sooner rather than later. Your daughter will only be in it for another 2 or 3 years before she starts riding on a TAB or on her own. Better to get the use out of it now. Trailers are pretty frequent on Craigslist.

Good luck.
