My Girlfriends first ride!!!!

Hey everyone, I started riding at the middle of this past summer, i have slowly progressed from 10km rides to a longest of 60, I used to ride a 90's nishiki , just upgraded to a Cannondale from around 1986. I promised my girlfriend that I would try to get a bike that she can ride too.

Monday morning was our first ride together.
We did around 19km, which was plenty for her first. I bought her some LG womens shorts, and she wore a helmet of hers, and a scott jersey I found at a thrift shop for $4, she wore some underarmor tights etc to try and keep warm.

The ride took us about 1.5hours, she was very intimidated by the hills, and scared of her braking system, i heard "omg i dont know how to slow down!!!" several times. At the end of the ride she had lots of fun, and it ended with some hot chocolate to drink, and watching star trek (great movie btw).

I only have one photo of us, she asked that i smudge her face, so decided to see what i would look like with a handlebar moustache.

Anyways, i know this thread is pointless, but just thought i would add one more new biker added to the list! She has agreed to ride with me next spring/summer etc.

Cool. Had a similar experience with my then-girlfriend long ago, on my college Peugeot and an old Schwinn Varsity she borrowed from a friend. We went 12 miles, and it nearly killed her.
We've done many centuries since, and in January we'll have been married 36 years, so she didn't hold it against me.

@Velo Dog Congrats on 36 years of marriage! Keep in rolling!

My wife joined me shortly after I started riding in May. She saw me losing weight and didn't want to miss out on that opportunity. Her first ride was about 1.5 miles and she thought she was going to die. Last week she rode 18 miles with me. It is nice having her ride with me.

That was quite a ride for her first! I am SOOO jealous! I can't get my wife to ride with me. She says we can't afford it!?! I think she's telling me that she'll probably like it and then we'll have to spend money on the stuff for her too. She will ride all over the nation with my as pillion on the motorcycle so that's cool. 30 years together here!

My wife is disable as well but I got her a trike. She can ride it a little but she is over weight too.So if you can find a way to get her a trike maybe she will ride a little with you.I told my wife you may be disable but you can still do for your self so why should I do with out my riding time. And she knows this spring I am going to Bangor Maine with out her.Our daughter can come over and help her while I am gone.It might be a sad way of looking at it but this is why I love to ride to get out and enjoy being by my self.

My wife does really like to ride her own bike - makes her really nervous. She grew up on an island without roads (she can handle a canoe really well). So I've been thinking about getting one of the Harmony Semi-recumbent Tandems. Looks like a good alternative and might work with someone with a disability for someone who could not ride a regular tandem. Note they can stoke using their hands if the disability precludes using their legs. Plus, it looks like a lot more fun for the stoker sitting up front. I'm figuring I can always add an electric assist if it proves too much work for me.
