New 2004 TREK 7100

Only had this bike since last Thursday. So far it has been great. Only one complaint. The stock seat that is on it. Has anyone ever put a road bike type seat on their hybrid. If so did you like the results? My second bike is a Trek 3700 and I have about 150 miles on it. Had the stock seat replaced with a gel seat and really like it. Just wanted to check and see if anyone else has played with seats on a 7100 and what my options are.

If by road bike seat you mean a narrow, racing type saddle, be careful. You are more upright on the 7100. More of your weight ends up on your butt, and a racing saddle could be quite painful.

it really depends on your riding position and the type of hybrid that you have. If it's geared towards a comfort hybrid, then maybe not, however if it's a racing hybrid, like a Specialized Sirrus et al, then you maybe able to get away with a more race oriented saddle.

In most cases, you maybe able to travel down to the LBS and try some on...

Hi CSCman. I purchased the 7100 about a week ago. This is a great bike. The stock seat on the 7100 is very comfortable for me. However, after about 10 miles, it does get a little uncomfortable. I've discovered just by coasting on the bike while standing up for a few seconds, then sit back down it gets comfortable again. I started out doing a 10 mile ride. The seat started getting a little hard. My second ride was 15 miles and the seat was comfortable the whole time.

For me, It just took my behind a little time to get used to. You could try a road bike seat, but I don't think it would be very comfortable. The 7100 has to much of an upright riding position. Practically all the weight is on your behind.

I agree with groundhog, I thought the seat on my 7100 was uncomfortable at first too, it get's better with riding. One thing though after more than 2 hours it it very uncomfortable. I think I am going with a gel seat too. the racing seat is no good as you are sitting upright on this bike.
