Looking at Bike Trailer for my son, and if he might be too Big

My son is 4, and weighs 50 lbs. He's as tall as most 5 year olds. My wife and Daughter would like to take some longer trips and a trailer would be great until he is ready. My concern is, is he going to out grow it to soon.

I'm looking at a used one tomorrow from a guy a work. It is an In Step that was bought at Target. They only used it for a summer. Still in great shape. It is a two seater.

My question would be to you all is, how much use did you get our of yours and would it be worth it if for me and my wife. They guy is looking for $60.00 Which seems like a fair price for a 2 seater trailer.

That is a good price. I think I see them usually going for ~$100.

Your son is getting old for a trailer. Depending on where he is developmentally, he might be ready for a Trail A Bike/Tagalong type setup.

You probably won't go too wrong on the trailer because even if he is only in it for one year you can resell and make most if not more money back. Take your workmate to lunch if you get more than you paid for it.

One thing to be check is your son's seating height with the helmet on.
We could not comfortably close the top cover with 5 y.o. neighbour girl with a similar trailer (which you might want to do to protect him from the road hazards)
Why not a TAB as masiman suggested? If concerned about falling, use the backrest ( https://www.amazon.com/Adams-Backrest.../dp/B000SMS7IC )

my 3 year old is getting too big for the trailer, she kicks out the velcro at the bottom front and sticks her feet out, I'm not very comfortable riding like that.

She loves the TAB, we occasionally will ride to the park 3 miles away and play a while and then ride home, she'll complain about being tired and won't pedal most of the way home, but is still pretty solid on the bike.
