Off she goes!!!!

FINALLY! My 7-year-old has realized that a) she will not DIE if she falls off her bike, and b) riding a bike is FUN!

We've been working on this for about a month. Mommy is mean and took away the training wheels, and then threw them away. Then she banned the Razor scooter to the garage until baby learned to ride. Mommy said daughter HAD to learn to ride her bike, and then, once she learned how to ride, if she hated it, she never had to do it again.

There were many tears and tantrums. The beautiful hot pink bicycle, which was innocent of any wrong doing, was dropped on the ground and kicked several times. There was muttering under the breath and MINUTES of silent treatment at a time. The helmet was also thrown, and as a result, bears some ugly scars.

Then, one day, through a curtain of baleful tears, the light shone through. Mommy had to go inside and check on the baby. She told daughter, why don't you practice a little until I come. A few moments late, Mommy hears her name being screamed from outside. Mommy rushes outside, thinking the worst has happened. "Oh my god! I've killed my baby all over a bike! She's fallen and been maimed, or possibly blinded for life!" Mommy rushes out, heart pounding in her throat, expecting to find rivers of blood...

But she finds daughter, on her bike, happily cruising up and down the drive, beaming from ear to ear. "Look, Mom! I'm doing it! I'm doing it!" Then daughter challenges mommy to a race, and the two ride off into the sunset to ride happily ever after, side by side...
