What do you carry in your water bottles??

Just wondering what people bring along to drink? Just getting started riding with my wife, and it's a question that came to mind.. just got a bottle for my bike- so I don't have to share with my wife.
Not that that's a bad thing!!
Might sound odd, but to me, V-8 juice sounds good...
What do you bring on rides???

Comes in several tasty flavors. Yum!

www.guenergy.com

Comes in even more tasty flavors. Yum!

You can get them at bike shops, health food stores, and some larger supermarkets.

Usually a New Belgium Ranger IPA...

No but seriously, depends on the length of the ride. An hour or so, usually just water. Anything longer and I like to carry water in one cage and some coconut water in the other.

I forgot to mention that I switched from Polar to Camelbak Podium Chill bottles. No top to pull open with your front teeth. Can't afford to have the crowns on those teeth repaired after pulling on a hard to open top.

Our rides arent very long, so most times it's just water. But we get those flavor packs to add some, well, flavor and if we know we are going on a long ride, I'll pack some sort of sport juice like gatorade or powerade.

Since this is the Recreational thread, I'll admit that on some pleasure rides,

my second cage has a double wall, 12oz. thermos with some coffee. ( haven't put any B&B in with the coffee yet...)

With the kozy thing my wife got me, fits well in the bottle cage.

Nice (for me) when I take a break.

Wrong? Probably, but I've given up so many bad things in my life, it's my one vice left.

I'm not so sure that drinks that are high in sodium, like V-8, are a good idea.

2 bottles each: 1/2 Gatorade(G2) 1/2 tea, bottle half filled, frozen. Add 3 or 4 ice cubes and top off with tea.

I usually fill a couple water bottles with diluted orange or mango juice and add a bit of salt. Gives pretty much the same electolyte and carb content as a sport drink plus has vitamins and is cheaper per bottle. But on short notice I have no issues running with Sobe's drinks or V8 either. They're both more effective diluted in any case.

Water and I use gu. I struggled with it at first but it works. Is Hammer better tasting?

I get the sodium part. If you develop cramps, salt pills are good. I'm not prone to cramps, but some people are and swear by them.

I used to mix up Accelerade 4:1 - the one with the carbohydrate/protein mixture. I was very fond of that, but I ride every day and it gets pretty expensive...so I switched to Gatorade, which was very cheap but not very good at all in quantity, and not good with my stomach.

I've settled on a mixture of 50% gatorade (fruit punch) and 50% vanilla Body Fortress Whey Protein drink mix, which tastes great and sets me up just right. Experimenting is good, and finally finding something that works for me all the time is very good. I bring that mix commuting on hot days, on group rides and long weekend cruises, and to the races.

< 1 hr - water in both bottles and ice depending on the outside temp.
> 1 hour - water in one, and gatorade G2 low sugar in the other. I used to have stomach problems with gatorade but I don't with this stuff.
> 3 hours same thing, but I also have this little camelback tablets I drop in water... it's fizzy and tastes better than 99.9% of water fountain water and probably has some electrolyte benefits as well.

+1 to the camelback podium recommendation. Those are the best bottles made in my opinion.

I checked out the camelbak link. Do you really lose the container taste? That would be nice.

Water bottles

I use a Polar bottle with some ice and tap water.
Sometimes I will just freeze the bottle/water the night B/4
