Tape/stickers/decal on bike frame?
 

My daughter has a hand-me-down 16" bike from her cousin and I'd like to do something about the frame color. I don't want to take all of the parts off and paint it or pay to have someone powder coat it. I was thinking of wrapping the frame in colored, patterned duct tape (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...TF8&psc=1&s=hi). I've also seen helicopter tape mentioned as a tough frame covering.

I live in the Pacific NW so whatever I use would need to be somewhat water resistant.

It seems like there should be a product out there specifically for this application, but I haven't found it yet.

Any ideas?

Vinyl, maybe, but you would have trouble with corners. Back in the day (mid 90's) we would use vinyl to add decals just before a car show i.e. rips or flames, some people would clear coat them on for an almost permanent effect.

I'm thinking like a hot pink vinyl on all the straight parts and purple duct tape on all the corners. There is a whole plethora of colors to choose from and its pretty durable.

On a kids bike, I don't think it matters too much, anything that sticks should be good. I'd go with a variety of duct tapes from Walmart, they come in all kinds of colors and are cheap. If they get damages, tape it again, or a different color. Of course, once you go the tape route, there really is no going back (too hard to clean back to bare paint) and the resale value of the bike is pretty much toast.

Although you dont want to paint it, I'd say try Plasti dip, although it comes in like 2 colors (Black and White) the stuff goes on easy, and best part of theres overspray, just peel it off like a sticker. Check out youtube videos about plasti dip, its crazy durable against paint and weather.

People have actually plastidip'd their cars and have said that it's held out for a very long time.

I thought green and yellow Duck Tape would be Punny, sell it in the U of O bookshop in Eugene.
