Seat for older child
I'd like to drop off my daughter at kindergarten while biking to work and am trying to figure out what technology will work. So far, the only dedicated seat I've been able to find is the Bobike Junior plus (rated to 77 lbs) and that's the one I've seen other parents at the school using. But it's over $200, which seems crazy. Other people seem to be just shoving something like a banana seat on the back and putting in some footrests, but I'm not sure how safe that is. Plus it will mess up the look of my bike more. I'm riding a Kona Dew Deluxe, if that makes a difference. Thanks folks.

This is Manhattan, so she's not going to be riding her own bike at rush hour anytime soon. I will not be picking her up, as I'm not off work at the end of school time.

In that case, you're stuck with a seat. putting in a banana seat with pegs just seems like a really bad idea. I'd suggest looking for models that will fit your kid's size/weight and checking out Craigslist for a used one. Safety trumps "looks" every time.

Yes, I think that the seat is probably the best option in terms of safety, cost, and practicality.
You could get an Xtracycle kit, but that would be much more than the cost of a new seat (though would give you other uses for the bike).

The Recumbent Quant
You can also think about a trail-a-bike, but depending on your route in Manhattan, that might really just not work...

My daughter is 5..and she weighs about 40##..I use the topeak seat..thls one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000ZK...mw_dp_mpd?pd=1
I thought it was rated for 48.5lbs ..but I could be wrong--its at least 40..also, you can find these (craigslist)--basically new--for more than half off. I think I paid $60 for mine.
