Four Kids in One Trailer?
 

I currently have a Schwinn two-kid trailer, plus a front seat for a 3rd kid. Which works great. Except I have more kids.

So I'm looking for a 4-kid trailer. Anyone have or heard of such a thing?

4 kids are under 200lbs total. With this kind of weight in a trailer one must start thinking about trailer brakes, which are addressed in this thread, so I don't want to discuss them here.

You could look at a cargo bike like Yuba. Monkey Bars | Cargo Bike, Cargo Bicycle, Electric Bike Cargo, Family Bike This would take care of two kids then tow the trailer with the other two.

Why wouldn't you just put a rear seat on your bike? Or are you looking ahead to when you won't be able to use a front seat? Another inexpensive alternative would be a trail-a-bike and trailer combo. If you need to carry four small kids, your best bet would be a Madsen. While it would be snug, you can definitely fit 4 in the bucket. You could possibly fit 4 kids in a Wike Extra Large Special Needs trailer (Adult Size Bike Trailer (Special Needs) | Wike Bicycle Trailers - The Walk and Bike Company), but even that has a weight capacity of 150lbs and it costs almost as much as a Mundo. . .

You could also probably throw them in a Wike Pioneer trailer, although, again, the 150lb capacity would apply:Wike Bicycle Trailers - The Walk and Bike Company

It is a full-suspension MTB. With electric assist. A rear seat would require alot of metalwork.

Those Yuba Monkey Bars with a trailer or trail a bike in tow is probably your best bet.

I've also seen a bike with a trail a bike also towing a trailer. That would make one in the front seat, one on the trail a bike and two in the trailer.

Here's a lady that carries 6 kids. The 4 in the bakfiets box look a little squished though.

I've seen a model sold in Europe that is enclosed like a bike trailer but it it built into the front of a bike and has 4 child seats, two rows of two. I can't find it at the moment, but I'll post here if I do. I think it cost $4-6,000 too.

I have a 2-trailer train (Schwinn and Instep trailers). Just mount the 2nd hitch to the lower horizontal frame member on the back of the 1st trailer, using a couple of angle brackets. (You'll have to make a small slit in the fabric cover). Be sure to attach the safety strap as well. The heavier kid/cargo needs to go in the front trailer.

This setup works great. No maneuverability issues, except making super tight left turns (while walking/reversing the train).

I have also used this double trailer setup behind a trail-a-bike. No problems (going uphill may require a lot of patience).

Hmm now that I think about it - lots of random strangers have taken pics of it, but I don't have any myself. And I'm currently 2500 miles away from that setup. I could draw a diagram of the trailer-to-trailer connection (it's pretty simple, really). I'm thinking of adding a 3rd trailer (for backpacks or an extra kid)... the biggest issue is finding parking space in front of the school or wherever :)

Finding parking with just one trailer can be ... "fun" ... I pull a trailer everywhere I go, they are just so dang handy. (no kids though)

When our daughter was little a friend had a trailer that had a pretty large cargo area behind the child seats (don't remember the brand). We modified that to put a seat back there for my daughter and did a few trips with his two kids and my one in his trailer. We probably could have fit in one more if needed.

The two of us towed it with my tandem to give our wives some child-free time.

The longest 'train' I've seen was a couple on a tandem towing a two-kid tandem trail-a-bike which in turn was towing a two-kid trailer. Looked like they had to plan their turns carefully but were moving along at a good clip.

How old are the kids? Maybe some of them can ride their own bikes?

Hello, I'm Soo. I am coming out of lurkdom to suggest a Bakfiets with Free Radical. I guess a bakfiets with trailer would work too.

Only one I've seen that seated four was homebuilt.
