wild and crazy idea?
OK, so I'm getting over the trauma of converting to recumbency. having done my best to wreck my body in my youth, I can no longer ride my DF's. So I've have been taking the inevitable losses of selling off my DF bikes that I either bought new, or spent way too much on customizing or restoring.
Which brings us to one specimen that doesn't seem to attract any buyers: a vintage carbon framed Giant OCR C3. It's a nice bike, for what it is--identical weight and geometry as my '85 De Rosa. But it's primitive, I guess, compared to the apparently helium filled lightweights that are around these days.
by the same token--it's got some decent gear on it, particularly Ultegra derailleurs and 105 shifters. Also, a triple crank, and good wheels and good rubber.
Now, consider for a moment where I'm at. I just acquired a Bacchetta Giro 20 ATT, which I love dearly, even though my wife won't let it in the bedroom. when I went shopping for it, I also rode a Giro 26--but decided that I should play it safe with a lower crank while learning to ride.
But now I'm thinking how nice it would be to have a lighter set of wheels, for Sundays when they close the roads in Rock Creek Park to vehicular traffic.
So I'm getting around to the crux of the matter. Do I take down my CL ad and dismantle the Giant, and look for a lightweight 'bent frame to build up from scratch--or just drop the price on CL and take my loss like a man?
PS: spending $3900 for a R-84 frameset is not feasible

Strip the parts off and get a decent highracer frame. No sense letting good components go for a song just bacause they're attached to an unsaleable frame. Rans, Bacchetta, Carbent etc all make 700c bikes.

If you do a search on the net for recumbent bike plans you will get a ton of results. Then again you can always go to atomiczombie.com they sell plans that take you step by step for all different kinds of recumbent bikes.
