Did our first group ride on the trikes
I took the wife on her first ride in the city, and our first group ride with the trikes last Friday. I have to say, it was an enjoyable experience and we certainly turned a lot of heads.
20" wheeled bikes just don't do well in "keeping up" with a bunch of DF, every time we went down a hill we were halfway up the group and by the top of said hill were trailing out the back a good ways. It was really hard to keep the same average speed as the group. It was a little scary having all those pedals moving right by our heads too. Funniest of all was one rider whom stayed with us for about 3/4 of the ride just being simply amazed by the bike (and/or my wife's tits, not sure) who I finally just had to tell to ride on and leave us be. |
Part of the 'keeping up' problem may have been the 20" wheels, but I suspect most of it was the "trike" part.

Last Saturday I sent the Kid out on his first group ride (25 mi "fast" shop ride) with one of our TT friends who used to ride DF's with them, but now rides a Morciglio highracer. I think the Kid got a little freaked out (he's 16) when he was told by our friend "we start slow, but around here the leaders try to drop folks". Long story short , he kept up fine- including on the hills. Looks like it'll be a weekly thing (on weekends when we don't have a TT on Sunday). He's on a M5 M-Racer. Avg speed from his Cateye was 19.5, max 31. Couldn't conceive of doing that on a trike. |
My highest average so far has been a bit over 14, and that was on a bone flat rail to trail. Normal "road" average is about 9 with the wife. Highest speed for me is about 30 coming back down the street to my driveway.
