Recumbent Shifter cables
Does anyone know if standard shifter cables will be long enough for for a RANS Tailwind?
Thanks, Bill |
Nope. Ask for "tandem cables".

Thanks.Ordered one from Amazon yesterday.

A tape measure with metric markings is very handy for figuring out exactly how long a cable is.

2300mm is "standard".
3100mm is "tandem" 4445mm is "triple" If that doesn't cover it, what kind of bike do you have anyway? Universal Cycles -- Jagwire Slick Derailleur Cables Not this I hope... http://www.halebikes.com/pictures/ta...e_scan0637.jpg |

Mrs. Grouch and I used to own a Rans Screamer take-apart. It was equipped with "cable splicers" that made it possible to break and re-connect the cables. I thought that I'd have to fiddle with the shift indexing every time that I broke the cable but that turned out not to be necessary.
The cable splicers used a second standard shift cable so you could use 2 short cables that you can find anytime, anywhere instead of one long, special order, tandem cable. |
You can try this which may be available from your LBS but is easily found online: Amazon.com : Ritchey Quick Disconnect - Derailleur (Pair) : Bike Cables And Cable Housings : Sports & Outdoors It is called a "cable splitter" and is often used on bikes with S&S couplers in the frame so when you split the frame, splitting the cables is possible too. There are other brands but this one seems to be the least expensive and works just as well as the more expensive ones. Used these on my Greenspeed GTO trike which is standard with the S&S coupler.

I replaced brake and shifter cables with teflon coated cables on my LWB Tour Easy, made a real difference.
It's like having freshly cleaned and lubed cables all the time, every ride except you never lube them at all. I periodically remove and clean them, say every other year, but NO lube that attracts dirt. Mountain Pro Brake | Jagwire http://jagwire.com/products/v/Mounta..._Teflon_Coated 2750mm was more than long enough... not expensive at all.. If your not riding teflon coated stainless cables your missing out :P |
