The hardest thing about selling your 'bent....

is weeding out all the lookie-lous who just want to come take a test ride on the novel bike.

More than a few replies with interest on my sale. I have had to resort to telling people that if they want to come look, I need to see cash. Couple of the folks got a bit butt hurt over it. I told 'em, you want to ride one, here is the name of a place that rents them. You want to buy? Come see me.

:innocent:

Thanks for the heads up. I'll soon be putting one of my 'bents on the market for the first time.

I have sold many bikes over the years. The 2 problems I see is they don't know anything about recumbents and want a history lesson over the phone. In that case I recommend a bike dealer. The second is people say I want it and don't show. If they make it to my house they are prepared to buy. I never negotiate price whether buying or selling until the product is seen and wanted. I am always happy to offer test rides and info to help enlighten folks on the joy of recumbent riding.

Don't mind "helping out" a potential buyer, or allowing a test ride. The issue I have been getting is the folks wanting to be educated and come over for a free spin with no real intention of buying the bikes.

I am hoping that the fellow that came this morning will REALLY be here tomorrow with his truck and some cash....seen a lot of that too..."be right back"

The hardest thing about selling recumbents is that it's such a nitch market. Even folks who are interested in buying a recumbent bicycle might not be interested in your particular bike. Also, the resale market for all but the cheapest two wheeled recumbents has dropped off of the table.

Have to say that the fellow who came back to buy them both was possibly the best sale experience I have ever had. He called me from the dealer for these bikes and wanted to come see mine after doing his research and pricing. He was knowledgeable, knew what he wanted, and knew the value of it. He came back on time, as discussed with cash in hand and didn't try to pull the last second negotiation.

I will miss the recumbents as they certainly served a great purpose for both of us.

I sold my first bent a Rans Tailwind, when I upgraded to a Rans Stratus. The first person to come by bought it at the asking price. It was 3 years old, and I sold it for just $200 less than I paid for it.

BTW a Tailwind is a great first bent.

I'm too busy to sell a used bike,

I've got a local bike shop that sells used bents now and then. They take 30% and that's fine with me because the last one they sold for me they got more than I paid for it. I got $50 less than I paid for it after they got that 30%..
