Actionbent Trike?
 

I see these pop up every now and again. Are they a descent trike?

To get technical, that's a Performer (because I can see the decal that says so). While it is true that Actionbent bought performers and TW Bents and slapped their stickers on them. Actionbent was just a retailer (long out of business) who ordered trikes from these two companies without decals so they could apply theirs.


I am not sure of the current status of TW Bents, but Performer is very much in business and they make a solid machine for a good price.

The general consensus seems to be that Performer bikes/trikes are a notch or two above the TW Bents ones in terms of design and overall quality. Never seen anything from TW Bents in real life but the Performer Agenda/ActionBent Midracer that I had for a couple years was a very well-made bike. Kinda wish I still had it.

You can read a review of the trike on Bentrider back in the day when it was introduced 'BentRider Online » Actionbent Main complaint was the hardshell seat (vs mesh). That would be a definite deal breaker where I live. I couldn't stand riding in a pool of sweat which would be the case in the desert heat.

If you do a wide area search on CL, two show up. One on the Boise CL for $500 and the other in Grand Rapids for $750. It is really hard to get anything that isn't entry level (read cheap components, heavy, and often with inadequate gear ranges) in this price range. Several of the entry level trikes on eBay are above these prices.

Wondering, would it be hard to change the seat out for a better one?
BTW, I left Vegas over a year ago, so I know what you mean. The summers there are BRUTAL!

Changing the seat might be a possibility but probably a slim possibility because if you wanted to go with a mesh seat, you would need a frame that attaches to the trike to accommodate the mesh. It wouldn't be cheap, probably too expensive to justify for a $500 trike.
I'm sure somebody here will pipe in to say they love their hardshell seat. They are common on some of the faster two-wheeled recumbents.
Next Monday June 5 is the anniversary of my arrival to Las Vegas from Findlay, OH. That was 1985 and it was 105 degrees when I arrived after interviewing for a job here in the Spring when it was a beautiful 80 degrees. I thought I might have landed in Hell when I came out of Utah and it became increasingly hotter the closer I got. You do get used to it.

In terms of availability and service locally....

I looked at the Performer brand before ultimately purchasing some Catrikes a few years back. The biggest issue I found was actually getting one. There had (at that time) been a guy/group selling them but had some delivery issues around the same time. At that particular moment the only venue I found was to order it direct from Hong Kong (iirc) and good luck with issues on that.

I found that within 100 miles of my location I had two shops that dealt with 'bents on a regular basis, and BOTH of them did Catrike. After attempting to take my trikes into "regular" bike shops a few times for minor issues I found the advantage in taking them to a trike specific servicing shop. Parts were almost always mail order.

I guess the point of my ramble is to be sure that you have a shop that will service nearby and a source of parts, or be willing and able to do it yourself.

AD Carson might be able to adapt one of his mesh seats. Replacing the seat is just a question of, "how much do you want to spend?"

Edit: As another option, you might consider getting a Ventisit pad. Get the right size, and it'll work almost as well as a mesh seat.
