Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

You can check this posting on Bentrideronline about Atomic Zombie. Atomic Zombie builds - BentRider Online Forums Bentrider has a subforum on homebuilt recumbents with posts by people who have tried them Homebuilders - BentRider Online Forums,

Some people are successful and others not so. I have a highly educated friend (MD) who decided to build his own recumbent even though he could afford to buy anything on the market. It was a fun project and he ended up with a beautiful bike using donor bikes and plans and components from a company in the Northwest (now out of business). It hangs in his garage today about 15 years after he built in because one of the welds failed on the first trial run. He strengthened the weld so it would never happen again but lost interest in riding the bike. Ditto for interest in a long wheelbase recumbent and Greenspeed trike which he owns so it may not just be the failure.

A google on DIY recumbent bicycle generates a number of sites for the DIYer. 15yrs ago there was a site
(wissel/wizzle ?? or something like that) on which a number of recumbent DIYers posted, not only frames
but windshield making and aero covers and storage options. CF is not out
of the question versus welding up steel tubes. CF is definitely easier than Ti as a material and there is
a lot on youtube about working with CF.

The owner of the old WISiL (WIsconsin-ILlinois) site bought the domain, recumbents.com. Look there and you'll find all of the projects that used to be on WISIL.

Thanks, Blaze, could only dredge up the phonetics and no reference in my current bookmarks on cycling,
but 15 yrs was probably 4 computers back and a few HD failures in between to lose stuff with.
