folding trike storage for travel
Ok, its me again. This time I've got a question about stowing my Trident Stowaway. Since its used, there was no owner manual. I'd like to know how easy it is to remove one or all the wheels. I have a pickup truck with a cover, and with the trike folded, it still sits above the top of the bed rail, making the cover not being able to close fully to secure it. Same goes with my girlfriends Hyundai Santa Cruz. We like to go to different places to ride the trails, and at the end of the day, secure them in the backs of our trucks. Right now, we've been locking them to the anchor points in our vehicles beds, but that don't stop thieves from removing parts from them. If I could make the trike a little more compact, we could close our (locking) covers...out of site, out of mind.
I am well mechanically inclined, so that is not a problem. Not knowing what lies behind them bolts and nuts is what scares me. Taking it apart, then finding a spring or what have you, fly out, not seeing where it came from... know what i mean, vern. Thanks for any information. |
Does your girlfriend also ride a trike? If you want secure storage for a trike, I can say that my trike will fit (folded) in the back of our RAV4. We take her DF bike into the hotel room. If you want to transport and store securely your trike in a pickup truck, you're going to need a full size bed Cap with locking windows. There may be room for two trikes, or a trike and a DF bike.
I've never taken the wheels off my trike to transport it and I would not want to have to reassemble it at the trailhead. It's enough of a chore to fold it, load, unload and unfold it. You can find a much larger recumbent trike forum at Bentrideronline.com. Lots of information there. |

You can always call them. Tom is very helpful. Some trikes, like my HPV Gekko, have quick release front wheels for this purpose but it does not appear to be the case with the Trident. |
