Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

New Toys for my Bike+????'s

I just ordered a bike comp and some panniers from Nashbar. I can finally get rid of that damn basket on my rack!
I am looking into joining my Uni's cycling club, but they compete in races. Anyone know if there are rules barring 'bents from races, they all have snazzy roadbikes, so I'll be the weirdo, but that's nothing new.

Thanks,
Mike

I suppose the best way to find out if they have rules banning recumbents, is to ask them.

What bike do you have?

I have an actionbent Jetstream II. I did ask them and yes, 'bents are banned. BUT the coach told me to call up a few bent riders who've asked previously and just make a stand at a race once we're trained up and ready to compete. She figured if 10 people showed up and had paid their fee's and got their numbers, and just came out and put their feet down, what choice does the official have?

You might get away with that at a local unsanctioned event but sanctioned mass start events (USA Cycling, ABR, etc.) would give you the boot no matter how many signed up unless they specified a seperate class for you..

its all it takes

If everyone who was interested in racing but rode a bent just went out to their local clubs and "made a stand" what choice would the larger organizations have? I think its ridiculous that they won't let 'bents race, just because we've found a better piece of equipment for that particular avenue they won't let us play, sounds like a sore loser to mee.
