Recumbent recommendations?
 

Hi, any members have a recommendations for a fast , comfortable and affordable recumbent?
I was planning on purchasing either a hi or midracer from Actionbent, but since I cant sit on or even see 1 before I buy, was hoping I could hear from any owners here.

Depends on your budget. Bacchetta has some really nice high racers. I'm really impressed with the Corsa and the people that I've met at the company. Check out the forums on their website.

how fast, how comfortable and how affordable? You can usually get two out of three. I'd look for a used p-38 or v-rex most likely, but that may or may not be affordable to you. I'd shy away from the actionbent, unless you're a great mechanic. Otherwise, they seem to be a good starter bent, but not many people stay with them, from what it seems to me. Volae is also a good possibility.

I see you're from Houston. You should come meet up with us rbenters in DFW and you can try a wide range of stuff out!

I have an actionbent and I don't think you need to be a great mechanic, or even one at all. Maybe buy a how to book, but short of that they're just fine. I bought mine because it was in my budget and it was fairly light(compared to other bikes in its price range, EZ-1 etc)

I am a 'bent newbie... love my Optima Lynxx. Took a bit to get used to, as the steering and weight distrubution are so different from a DF bike... but my Lynxx is fast and fun... even looking to part with the ti road bike as a result.

Definitely visit a bike shop that has recumbents, to test ride and determine what works best for you. You may find that you like a long wheelbase better than a short one. You may like three wheels better than two. Once you know what works best, you can find the best deal, be it at a retail store, or online.
