SWB - Homemade, The Begining
 

Here's the start of my SWB. Being 6'6" 235lbs. I don't care if it's a couple lbs. overweight. I like working with discards. It's fun.

It's temporary. :-) This is the rough stage before the frame's welded and I put all the good stuff on it. Visegrips are holding it together.

Like your idea,,, I did something similar, Took a girls frame and replaced fork with a 16 inch kiddy bike fork,,,put on plastic kitchen chair and then for the boom for pedals i used a seat tube which makes it extendable or adjustable... I would put a pic on here but need to educate myself on how to do that. Yours is looking good..........my kiddie fork was pink too. That is a WAS...past tense :) . . . . ... ... peace

Thanks Floyd. I have two other forks I could use. A chrome set and a really HD set that takes an extra large axeled wheel that has lots of extra spokes. But the top end of that fork is not threaded and the way it bolts on is weird, I may not use it. But that wheel is too large of an axle to use on a regular fork. Most of the components are just rough temps. The back wheel is temp. also.

Welding is Sat. morning.

Do you do your welding in the oven or the clothes dryer... :)
Looks like it is going to be a nice setup...the one I made I think I am going to consider as a prototype as there are some things I need to do differently...presently the chain is rubbing on the front fork so I need to do some geometry changes or consider using idler wheels to route the chain. peace

Update - frame is welded, pre-paint photo. All discarded stuff I found.

?what is your plan on routing the chain? That is to keep it from hiting the front fork.........peace

I think the top chain route (pull) will have a straight shot, the bottom (return) will have a wheel or something. That'll probably be last. That front wheel in the photo has no nuts and I haven't got any that big. I hope the LBS has a big pair of nuts. I like that wheel and forks, they're really heavy duty.

Or if you're lucky, maybe one of the guys working in the store. :eek: :D

Another update (primed). And got the nuts for the front wheel. $2/ea.! For NUTS! They're huge though.

Another update (painted). Tomorrow may start assembly. A neighbor gave me a DF bike they were going to toss that I can canibalize for everything. Perfect timing. And amazingly... the extension tube from a little aluminum scooter, I found (big rollerblade wheels kind) looks like it'll work to raise the handlebars.

Slowly but surely. The seat seems to be my biggest obstacle.

The seat will adjust fore and aft? Looks like the BB is fixed in place.

At first I thought of making the seat fixed. But apparently there are some other people who want to try it. And it's almost impossible for most people to ride a recumbent that's adjusted for me. My x-seam is 49". Yeah.

The chain routing is turning out to be interesting. Approx. a double in front going through a tensioner derailer and a normal chain setup in rear. Do I have an understanding wife or what??
