Restarting BikeE
 

Has anyone looked into restarting the BikeE line of recumbents. I know
Big Ha used to own it. I was wondering where it all stands now?
Could it be revived?

I am not knowedgable by any means but my guess is that it will not happen...reason...there are too many other styles out there that are becomeing successful. Not saying that it will not happen but with recumbents growing in popularity (be it ever so slowly) the new products that are already out there have the better chance. That is my 2cents........................peace

...why? They weren't fantastic bikes to begin with, and there are much better ones available now at similar price points.

BikeE's were selling for $1100-$1300 when they were still in production.
Both Sun and Cycle Genius both have bikes now for ~$600.
There may be a Chinese company somewhere making something very similar, and it's just not getting over here.

About the only particularly good thing about BikeE's was that because they used a box-beam frame, it was simple to make different lengths for different-height riders.

When BikeE moved production off-shore, the prices dropped to the ~$600 range.
Of course, lowering their prices so much may have helped with an early demise.

BikeE's came in 2 frame lengths only, regular and XL (Xtra long).
But the SEAT can be moved in a half a minute, to fit just about any sized rider.

We have a rear suspended XL framed version, where I added a second BikeE seat & pegs, for a factory looking kid seat. And with 3 small children, they're always arguing over who gets to ride with Popi! :rolleyes:

I'm sorry they went under. I always recommended that people get one, as their first recumbent. It was easy to learn to ride. And when the person moved on to a more performance recumbent, the BikeE could always make a handy "loaner", because the seat was so easy to adjust.
So "ours" has a permanent place in the stables.

But to paraphrase;

The 2 step plan for how to make a small fortune building recumbents.

1) Start with a large fortune.
2) Make & sell recumbents!

The BikeE had to be one of the easiest bents to ride. That low 16' inch wheel allowed smaller riders the ability to have both feet on the ground during a stop. No they were not the fastest bent out there but I know one guy who can keep up with anyone on a hybrid, mountain or touring bike.

The cost of the BikeE CT was rock bottom low and very few bents sold today are lower.

Speaking of Bike E, is there a source for parts, I am looking for a straight riser to fit my Agio?

I see parts on eBay fro time to time. Hey FlyingAnchor do you play that mandolin? I would only want to do something like selling bents to support my habit.

FA - you want a Bike-E part for your Bacchetta? Or is it just a question of finding something that's not quite like the stock parts?

I am looking for a straight riser so I don't have to reach so far forward while riding my Agio. If I set my current riser with the bend facing back the bar ends hit my body.
And about the mandolin, I do play the mandolin but not the one in the picture, can't afford five grand for a good one. I have and old Kay and a newer cheap Fender. The old Kay is my acoustic player and the Fender is my Acoustic/electric player.
Don't think I will play the mandolin while riding my Agio though. :)

About the only bent I could see playing your mando on woiuld be a Flevo. Look Ma no hands. I play 5 sting banjo soe guitar and the mando a little.
