Used Vision R40
Today I had an opportunity to ride a factory built recumbent for the first time. My only previous experience has been on my own 'no weld' home-built bike. What a tremendous thrill! I really hated to give it back, it felt so right.
I was visiting this bike store in a nearby town where they have a Vision R40 for sale (at least I 'think' it's an R40). They tell me that it's 3 years old and the asking price is $750 CDN (that's about $450 - 500 USD).
As near as I can tell the only signs of wear is a little scuffing/tearing of the right side hand grip. I suppose the tires are a bit worn, but nowhere near in need of replacement.
My question is - does this thing 'sound' as though it's worth $750 CDN? Any and all advice, even discouragement is welcome. I'm trying to attach a picture that I took of it today after I rode it, dunno if that will help your assessment or not, but please have a look!

Hi Nobby,
My thought is that you should snap that r40 up right now! A brand new one retails for 1695 cdn and from the picture it looks pretty good,except for the tires. I would have loved to have found that bike when i was looking for a recumbent.

I find it so amazing how practically everyone who tries a bent loves 'em, yet we are a minority. Like the old TV commercial: "Try it, you'll like it!"
Nobby, how do you like the ride of the home-built? Is it way different from a factory-built?

Pat;
Actually today I did a bunch of refinements on my home-built, it was well worth it...much more fun to ride but a long long way to go to reach the feel of that Vision, which was eerily quiet. I'm not at all sure that it's an R40 (I didn't ask at the shop, I assumed).
My home-built "no-weld recumbent" (designed by David Rehus of Cincinnatti Ohio-please forgive if I spelled that wrong) is functional and is helping me a lot with others that I have under construction. Also, it's just plain fun to ride! However, it's noisy - rattles, chain noise, derailleur noise, etc. and the brakes are more asthetic than functional. I guess I'd best go and do something about that!

I would like to try to build a bent, but I wouldn't trust my craftmanship, especially on a downhill! I am a self taught welder (wire feed) and I have had many welds break. But yours was made without welding?! Amazing. I have read on another bike site of people making bents using wood for the main frame. That would look so cool. But you wouldn't get me on it!
