Clipless pedals...any suggestions?

Hello,
New to this forum...have a Cannondale Easy Rider and wedge MTB....never have used clipless and would like to benefit from your experience/suggestions. I am a "senior" rider, but fit. Not wanting to compete, just make my peddling more effiecient. Any specific brands/model numbers appreciated. Thanks

I use and like Time ATAC and Crank Brothers Eggbeaters. Both work well and provide a consistent release when you need to get your feet out.

On my touring bikes I use the Time ATAC Control Z pedals which have a platform and the clipless mechanism so you can ride without clipping in [great when starting in a tough spot] or if you want to ride in street shoes.

+1 on the ATACs (never used CB pedals, so I couldn't say). In addition to consistent release, the give you float while still having a very solid connection, the release mechanism absolutely refuses to clog up even when your cleats are covered with mud, snow dirt or whateverelse you've been walking thru, and in 10 years of use mine have required exactly ZERO maintentance. Oh, yeah - the bigger platform of the ATACs means I have never ever had hotfoot while using 'em. Care to guess what's on all my bikes?

I use plain old SPDs on all of my bikes. They're inexpensive, walkable, and ubiquitous. And the cleats last forever, unlike some that have to be replaced a couple times per year. The platform size is meaningless if your shoes are stiff enough, i.e. your shoe's sole becomes the platform.

I second SPD's. I've used generic SPD pedals without problems for more than ten years.

Crank Bros. Candy, cleat mounted as far toward heel as possible & slightly rotated to allow release at any point of the pedaling circle (also required removing some of the shoe sole by the big toe).

+1,000 to spd's. I use them on all my bikes.

Speedplay Frogs have a great amount of float (20 degrees). They are the only pedal that my old knees feel good with when riding.

That sums it up for me too.

I'm another SPD user, just because the cleats fit well into the first pair of shoes. I adjust pedals for the minimum tension that still holds my feet in place.

And they have even more than that if you cut out the toe-stop (so they release when twisted either direction).

I used to have some old SPDs, but I had problems with pressure induced numbness. I have switched to Crank Bros Mallets and the wide pedal seems to cured my numb feet. I also like the easy release of the Mallets.

I ride with Crank Brothers Candy SL pedals. I use either Shimano Sandals or Shimano Mountain Bike Shoes. The cleats fit in recessed areas of the shoes and sandals allowing easy walking when off the bike. My wife and I do a lot of touring (week long bike trips) where we get off the bike do a lot of walking. When I rode DFs I used Look Type pedals with road shoes. Walking with road shoes with look cleats is difficult. The hard soles of the road shoes were easy to scuff up.
