I can't stop reading this forum

I am newly returned to cycling, and am enjoying my new-to-me Trek 520, modulo some fit and chafing saddle issues. Ok, my wrists are killing me and all the Body Glide in the world isn't helping me yet. A new stem, saddle, and some bike shorts had better clear this up soon :)

There is zero chance of me buying a recumbent before, say, next fall due to saving-for-a-first-home finances. And yet I frequently lurk around the recumbent forum and visit the page for the Bacchetta Giro 26 about once a week... I think I have 'bents on the brain. It doesn't help that my coworker frequently commutes to work via a Tour Easy. I also just found that an LBS is a dealer for Bacchetta...argh.

Damn you all!

So, what's your second 'bent going to be? :)

HP velotechnik speedmachine.

Hey...wait a minute. That's dirty pool.

aikigreg 09-02-08 06:24 PM

speedmachine is aq bad choice, but you're going in the right direction! It's only money man, and it's fleeting - bents are forever!

recliner 09-03-08 09:37 AM

why is speed machine a bad choice? asparagus is a bad choice, or is it?

If you get a nice bacchetta I can tell you from experience it does really well at picking up really cute recumbent riders. Just make sure you get a kickstand so they can lean their bike on yours at rest stops.

That touring bike parked next to my ride just looks like plain torture, and they only end up riding once a week or so which must mean it is ;)

Note: Just to be fair I will be riding my road bike on a group ride tonight which is about 20 miles. It is still a nice bike and I like to ride it sometimes since it really is a whole different experience. I certainly won't be riding any centuries or 200k+ rides on it though.

Can't stop reading?

After a while it gets repetitive, so I'm sure you won't have a problem stopping then.

The Volae Expedition has also caught my eye.

Next fall can't come fast enough...

Ditto

Keep reading forums because it will be two more weeks before my first bent is shipped to me.
Still get on my DF, but dread the saddle and the affect the DF has on my hands. After four shoulder surgeries from non biking injuries the circulation and the nerves in my hands are not good.

Perhaps the time has come for a second, third and/or fourth job to shorten the delay.

Recumbomatic 09-03-08 08:14 PM

Does this mean you haven't taken a ride yet? Just one ride, to see how it feels...the first one's free. ;)

LOL, I already have a second one that's meant to build up the house down payment!

You know, I wasn't going to do so, but then about 15 minutes after today's 30 minute ride on my Trek the ring and pinkie fingers on my left hand abruptly went numb for about a half hour. I cycled a ton when I was a teenager, but that was about 80 lbs. ago (yeah, at 250 lbs I post over in the Clydes section too). The whole bike purchase is partly supposed to facilitate dropping 50 lbs and also to commute by bike.

Now I'm starting to think I should have listened to Jake von Slatt and gotten a 'bent right off the bat. Bacchetta bikes are sold at a local dealer, maybe I'll give them a call. Even if it may just be torturing myself due to finances. And yes, I know a Giro 26 is on Ebay right now...
