stop by the chp.....

Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

stop by the chp.....

I'm coasting down a small hill near my house in the bike lane at 9 mph on my ez3 trike. I hear a car behind me so I look in my mirror....hear is a CHP(California Highway Patrol) with his red lights on. I pull over, he stops gets out with ticket book in hand.....I'm trying to think of what I could have done wrong. I stopped at the stop sign, I signaled for a right turn....I had a helmet on (not required for adults) but still it was on. I was not speeding or holding up traffic....all of this flashed in head as he walked up. We both say "hi"....He says the reason he stopped me is to check my trike out...so why the ticket book he wanted to write the model number down an get more info,so I gave him some sites to go look at. He then asked me if he could ride it. Now I'm thinking a short block or two ride.....no he took it for a mile out and a mile back, left me standing by the curb next to his patrol car I look like a criminal.... He gets back tells me thank you....then he wants to know if his wife can ride it some time. I say yes, he then calls his wife. As we are standing their talking for about 15 minutes. His wife shows up. She asks how far she can go. I made a mistake an said as far as you want too. She rode a four mile loop...When she got back, had a big smile on her face, my riding time now shot...they thank me again....I now have to return home 500 yards away so I can go pick up my kids at school. all started with a desire for a short ride....

You did remember his name, so next time you get pinched for a legit traffic violation you can name drop, right?

Yeah, it screwed up your ride, but I think you did a good thing - and those don't go unnoticed.

He'll check the connection, and you just got a get out of jail free card.......

And if that CHiP and his wife both get a recumbent, his buddies are also going to be nicer to everyone that rides a recumbent bike.

:)ensen.

Reminds me of a commercial... cop car is in hot pursuit of a sports car, lights and sirens blazing. After a long chase, the sports car stops, cop gets out. Other guy gets out of the cop car. Cop says "thanks for the test ride." Other guy says "no prob - thanks for letting me run the lights."

Definitely extra karma credit for you today.

Being a 'bent ambassador takes its toll sometimes, but spreading the word to those who are open to listening is what's making this industry grow.

Good on ya.

Since it took so long I'd say that the cop was taking advantage of his cop powers, not to mention the fact that he was not doing his job for the duration of the demo. Maybe a complaint to his boss is in order.

Noooo! <Shudder> The rear wheel drive ones are fat sloppy pigs. Even with the police mods.

I was once pulled over by a motorcycle cop in London, he wanted to know about my bike, which was a new model at the time. As I had been,... less than well behaved at the time he stopped me, and I hadn't seen him, I was quite relieved.

Funny - but the CHiPs TV show had a program about recumbent streamliner. I was just waiting for the "but officer; don't you watch re-runs?"

Lots of strangers ask me to let them ride my bent. Lucky you had the patrol car as collateral.
