Any trailer draggers here?
 

I'm getting an HP Velo Scorpion FS and I'm thinking about a trailer for the longer trips to take some of the weight off the rear wheel and suspension.

Single wheel or conventional? I have no experience with either so any and all info/opinions/horror stories are most welcome and very much appreciated!

I prefer a single wheel on my SWB recumbent,unless its a really heavy load,then i use the 2 wheeled one but the tail does wag the dog a bit.the single wheel one i have is the same as the actionbent one,it folds flat and fits inside the luggage bag.hope this helps.

I'm leaning towards a single wheel, but I can't find one that will be level when coupled to the 20" wheel of my trike. Is there a fix for this?

I contacted the BOB trailer folks, but they couldn't offer any help. They make a coupler for 26" and one for 700C & 28", but not for 20".

Because I ride a Catrike, I went with a two wheel (Quik Pak) Trailer. It's still narrower than my trike and seemed to me it would be more stable when loaded than a single wheel trailer. Also, it's a bit easier to park and move around the campsite as it has, well, two wheels.

I pull a B.O.B. behind my Catrike "Road" with no issues. It tags along straight and true behind the 20" wheel, the same way it does behind a 26" when we pull it behind our Rans Screamer. I did look at a Scorpion trike before buying the Catrike. On the Scorpion, the Sram "dual drive" would have prevented me from using the B.O.B. which I already had. Good luck with our decisions. Mike

oops! forgot to add,the actionbent trailer attaches to the supplied Quick release spindle.It also fits onto Bob nutz on my hubgeared bike.

I have an old touring bike that I was thinking of upgrading - making it a bit easier and faster for running errands about town and potential touring. But another part of me is thinking about getting a bent and a trailer, so +1 to people looking for opinions/stories/suggestions.

I use the BoB single wheel trailer, I have the Catrike Trail. I bought the BoB last summer, I planned a tour in Aug. with a couple DFer's. We were to camp and carrying tent, sleeping bag, and assorted gear I felt would have been excessive on the frame. After much researching the BoB seemed the best for my uses, I used 2 drysacks and a pannier and its rain cover for all my stuff ( LBS didn't have the dry sack that comes with the BoB) also leaving the trailer and gear at the campsite allowed some fast side trips.

I'd love to go with the BOB rig, but the hitch isn't compatible with the SRAM Dual Drive rear hub that is spec'd for the trike.

I realy like the handling of the two wheeled trailers as they are easier to deel with when unhitched.

I also have the DualDrive, had to attach the trailer to the bottom of the rack where it connects to the frame. Clearly not the best setup, but I had no trouble, and didn't have to give up on my DD.

I also use a Burley Nomad behind my Catrike Expedition. It holds up to 100 lbs (really, it does!) and with the optional carrier you can take a ridiculous amount of gear with you...more than you'll want to pull uphill. The Nomad is rock solid, does not affect trike handling as long as the load is balanced and you don't overload it, and with a light load you tend to forget that nit's even back there. The aluminum frame is solid and the rest is heavy fabric. The floor is also fabric and I was a bit concerned about holes in it so I cut a piece if 1/4" plywood to cover it inside...problem solved. Included tires are Schwalbe Big Apples and the wheels mount with QR skewers. I've not had a moments concern about the hitch. When not in use it folds to about 6 inches thick. I'd buy another in a heartbeat but I probably won't have to because this won't wear out anytime soon.

I want to thank all the responders for their excellent comments, info & advice. For me, the Quik-Pak trailer is the one. I'll simply bend the tow bar down slightly using a conduit bender to make it ride level. I also really like the features and the 20" wheels with sealed bearings etc. I'll most likely make and mount a light aluminum floor directly to the frame under the fabric as I will never have a need to fold it.

I'm also a Burley Nomad user and will say absolutely that this does everything and more than you'd expect from higher end equipment. I'd buy another in a second but the one I have will probably outlast me. It's rated to 100 lbs and this is conservative. Tracks perfectly and hitch is the best. Call them with your model of bike and they should have a varience of their hitch that will fit your bike.

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=179620Further to the my last post, I've since bought a hub motor for the BoB. Had the LBS lace a Crystalyte 404 into a 16" wheel (50 405) with the LI-Ion battery mounted on the trailer deck, I've got a powerful pusher trailer.

I ended up re-specing the trike to include a Rholoff hub, so I'll be going with a Bob trailer after all.
