Flying with the P38 Voyager

I'm a new owner of a P38 Voyager who is planning to fly with it later this week. The Voyager suitcase is just outside the airlines magic number to be accepted as checked baggage. The Lightening website suggests that this has not generally been a problem. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone that has had any recent experience flying with the Voyager suitcase.

I don't know about that particyular combination but one trick that has worked for some personal friends is to unpack a wheel and take it as a carry-on. That allowed the suitcase close a little more tightly and squeeze in under the max dimension number.
