Miracle of Modern Medicine
Just 7 weeks after my terrible accident on my BikeE in which I badly fractured my femur, I am back on the road.
I have a 14 inch rod through the bone and some pins holding everything together. The surgery sent most of my
thigh and hip muscles south. There's been therapy 3 times a week, and lots of hard work at home.
I'm about 1/3 of my former power, which was considerable for a man of my age. (59). It will take until summer
for me to get back to where I was before the accident. I was able to do about 2 miles today; it was a little edgy
and shaky at first, but soon I had my usual grin and felt quite at home. I thought I would gain weight in the weeks
without riding, but in fact, I've managed to loose a few pounds. I'm writing this here, because I think
people who read these threads would understand my elation at this point in my recovery. Most of my friends and
family think I'm nutso for still wanting to ride.

That's great to hear you're back on the road! Wow, a 14 inch piece of steel, that'll set off the metal detector at the airport, won't it??? Losing weight is good, except in your case some of it was probably muscle mass.

With all that steel in you leg besure you are at the airport early if you plan to fly. I would bring a copy of an xray of that leg, it might save you some more "interesting" searches. Glad to hear your on the mend so soon.

I think its fantastic that your back on the bike! gotta take some nerve, guess now you know that your passion for riding is not just a fleeting thing! congrats and good luck!

Sounds like you've already recovered the reason we ride: "the usual grin." With that back in place, everything else will follow. Congratulations.
