I need help with RANS Tailwind cable setup.
 

I just got in a used Tailwind. I have it all together but the cable setup is very confusing to me. Does anyone know where I can find a diagram or something to show me how to do them correctly?

I don't think there's a right way or a wrong way, as long as the cables get to where they need to go without kinking or binding.

I took it to a local bike shop. They reassembled the whole thing, which was probably a good idea. At least I know everything is correct now. Rode it yesterday 10 miles. It was like riding on a cloud. Best $125 I've ever spent at a bike shop for both their labor and knowledge.

If yours is a 2000 or earlier model, riding on a cloud is due to a skinnier main tube than later models, resulting in built-in suspension. Somewhat true of many LWB 'bents but especially of those models.
A 2000 TW was my intro to recumbents.

Mine is an 01 with the larger tube. Since I weigh 255, I'm glad the larger tube is there.

Must have got a lot of feedback that the skinnier tube was too flexy.
Since you have a 2001, you also don't have to be concerned about a fork steer tube recall that included Tailwinds through July 2000. (On the RANS website)

I'm glad you said that. I found a great deal on a Rans Stratus LE, and almost bought it. But I think the smaller 20" back wheel gives me a better start off (255 pounds). Also, I have to transport my bike to the trail several miles each time I ride. After comparing the tailwind and stratus, I felt the size of the stratus would be a hassel.

What kind of rack do you use to transport your recumbent? I'm trying to find one that will hold two recumbents, and so far, not having much luck.

Haven't used a rear-mounted rack for a long time. My bikes usually go in the back of the minivan and rarely on the roof rack. Tip for hauling recumbents on the roof: The seat generally must be removed.

I used to haul my Tailwind sometimes on an older Graber trunk-mount rack. Nothing special.

A Tailwind was my first recumbent. A really great bent, especially for first learning to ride bents. I sold mine after 3 years and bought a Stratus LE. The main reason was to have a longer tail end for a rack for my trunk pack. BTW I sold it for only $200 less than I paid for it new.

Hitch rack? I use a Hollywood Sportrider, with longer arms for recumbents. If you go through Hollywood to purchase it, get the one with the ratcheting upright post.
