Brand-Sensitive shifting
I recently replaced the drivetrain on my NoCom. New SRAM trigger shifters, new SRAM chain, and new SRAM derailleur. You'd think it would all work together perfectly, but for some reason all my gears except for one were noisy, as if the spacing on the cassette was wrong. I finally swapped wheels to one with an older Shimano cassette. The cassette is worn and skips in one gear, but the noise is gone.
That got me to thinking, I usually run Shimano cassettes, and it's because in the past almost every time I've run a SRAM cassette, I've had shifting problems. The only exception is the PG-990 cassette I'm currently running on my M5. Does anybody have any guesses as to what's going on? Something inherent with SRAM cassettes, or am I just unlucky?

Dunno- I have Sram trigger shifters and a Sram cassette on the M5 and they work fine once I get the adjustment dialed in. My bottom gear is kinda noisy but the others are fine when it's adjusted.

With Sram 5 twist shifters, and Sram 7 RD my LWB bent shifts quietly and flawlessly. It has a Sram cassette also.

I got a new cassette, but haven't had time to put it on yet. In spinning the wheel, it appears that *some* of the cassette gears are not true. That is, they wobble back and forth a bit when the wheel spins. Looks like the cassette may be defective. If that's the case, maybe the separate upper gears will still be good to keep for spares.
