Getting to know my new tadpole - every ride brings new insight.

Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

Getting to know my new tadpole - every ride brings new insight.

I have close to 200 miles on my new-to-me ICE Sprint tadpole trike, and have been getting quite comfortable with it. I learned something new last weekend while riding the local rails to trails path: It is intuitive to straddle piles of horse droppings, but you really shouldn't be tempted to do it.

Straddling pot holes is usually bad, too; although for different reasons.

On my tadpole I had very little trouble learning to put a pothole or whatever between a front wheel and the back wheel.

One of the worst trails I ever rode on was a packed dirt trail located somewhere near Joliet Illinois. It wasn't the horse droppings that were so annoying but the fact that the horses' hooves had turned the surface into a washboard. It was enough to loosen the fillings in your teeth. I heard they eventually paved the trail. If you are going to ride bike trails shared with horses at the very least you should add a rear fender.
